Southeastern Turkey, PKK-Govt clashes. This year PKK started operating in urban areas so govt closes down parts of cities with very strict curfews and does, well this kind of stuff. From human rights perspective it's terrible.

The talk between the operators:
-Come on, guy with the gun, get out.
-They are kids?
-No, they are not, they're grown up men.
-Grown up men with stuff in their hands.
*shoots*
-Hah! One down
-Shoot shoot
-Shoot his legs
-Okay, don't kill just the legs
-Dude it's blown it's enough.
-There's another one. He has a grenade.
-Ok.
-3 down. Ok.
-Boss, we should take them, they might die.
-Dude, don't shoot, it's enough.
-We recorded it sir, 2 men with hand grenades and one with a rifle neutralized.
-Thank god.
-He's injured.
-Stop stop, don't kill.
-Don't kill, he'll die by himself.

Also I might add this thermal camera videos really do the trick for me. I exactly understand what the world is when I watch them. ISIS and similar groups pretending that they're all powerful but they're just dots on screen scratched after a successful autozeroing function is executed. This really makes me question the psychology behind joining these organizations.

From the other side, it's just high school educated people deciding who gets to live, while perpetuating the status quo in armament race. Which is exactly why I watch TOW videos to balance this.

It couldnt be that difficult to have a hybrid system, an autoloader that can be disabled and that is fixed to the inside of the barrel manually so that it can be detached easily if it becomes stuck or malfunctions.

In fairness, North America and the EU are having no issues feeding themselves, throw Russia into the Europe pool and I can see some parts of sub-saharan Africa, areas in the Indian Sub continent and maybe parts of Brazil/SA needing a cull, agricultural advances have allowed us to maintain population growth in the areas with access to them, this includes the likes of China and Egypt aswell as the completely swollen (800m) population of europe.

>>7913028
Not that guy but,
Remember not every tank is handled by combat engineers, more systems in operation means more things that can go wrong.
Theres a reason the British Embraced the AVREs so much in WW2, it gave them freedom to put any kind of system on their tanks without worrying about it malfunctioning and having to be taken back to the FOB for repairs every time the vehicle went over a rocky stretch of terrain.

From friends of mine who were tankers have all said that autoloaders were too slow.

Brits and American tankers can typically load a new round in about 4 seconds, and autoloaders tend to take about 6 seconds.. Additionally loaders can quickly load up different types of rounds (HEAT, SABOT, CAN, etc) quickly, while autoloaders don't have that ability left, giving them more flexibility on the battlefield.

Essentially a halfway decent human loader is better than an autoloader, a good human loader blows an autoloader out of the water.

At least that's my understanding, I was a grunt I just used tanks as giant 8 million dollar heaters.

That's broadly correct, under ideal conditions a human loader will reload faster than an autoloader. Though note that modern autoloaders can choose from between different ammo types quite easily.

Anyways, usually autoloaders are chosen for different reasons than peak performance. For one, they don't fatigue, so during prolonged combat they'll eventually overtake the performance of human loaders. Secondly, they're usually much more compact than a person, meaning that the turret and tank as a whole can be that much smaller, thanks to only having to accomodate two people instead of three. The trade-off there is that having an additional person in the tank can be quite handy in case you need to perform repairs, maintentance, or have to replace a casualty.

You can see how this difference shaped tank designs in the cold war. The western powers generally assumed their tanks to be performing an elastic defense initially, firing from prepared positions and then quickly falling back to further prepared positions and await the russians there. For them, it would ideally be a series of intense but short clashes, where the higher peak performance of the human loader would be quite valuable.

The russians on the other hand planned on an offensive Bagration-style Deep Battle that would consist of a firm breakthrough and basically constant maneuver. For that reason they wanted to keep their tanks as small as possible to minimise casualties during maneuver, and also needed them to be able to still function decently in battle even after very prolonged combat.

>Every mortar shell is "this 45° angle shud b good rite''
>Every rocket barrage is aimed at "up", some of which hillariously change trajectory mid-barrage due to recoil jerking the footing loose

Serious question: Seeing as how the vast majority of actually-usable weaponry possessed by ISIS is shit that was abandoned by first-worlders, wtf is going to happen once they run out of rocketry/decent shells and how much longer can they really continue to launch rockets at infidel trees before they run out of everything other than Kalashnikovs and scimitars?

thrust vectoring has very little combat use on modern era with every single thing optimized for BVR engagements.

Here, read what USAF pilot says about thrust vectoring.

>First, a little thrust vectoring history. The USAF tested a 3D nozzle on the Multi-Axis Thrust Vectored F-16 in the early 1990s.
>It was found that thrust vectoring was really only useful at speeds below 250 knots (with the F-16; the speed will vary with other jets). >Above that speed the jet had enough g available and was maneuverable enough that thrust vectoring didn't add anything.
>Also, at high speeds, if the nozzles start to swing the jet violently around you're apt to induce unacceptable loads on the airframe.

>Thrust vectoring, whether 2D or 3D, is a two-edged sword. If you're going to use it, you'd better kill me now.
>Ever seen videos of the Super Flanker spinning around like a top and doing back flips at an airshow?
>First off, the jet is slow – not a place to be in a multi-bogey environment. Second, when thrust is steered off-axis the axial component of thrust is decreased. Axial thrust pushes the jet (and wing) through the air at a speed required to maintain lift.
>Take away forward thrust, take away speed and lift. Go back to the videos. What's happening?

>The Flanker is dropping like a rock at slow speed (no lift is being produced by the wing). If the Flanker pilot does not kill me now, the other edge of the sword is about to fall. He's automatically building in vertical turning room for me and it's going to take an unacceptable amount of time for him to get enough smash back to take it away due to his low airspeed. If I'm still alive I'm turning him into a strafe rag.

>I flew enough BFM against the Raptor before I retired where the new Raptor pilots were discovering there's a time for thrust vectoring and there's a time to leave that club in the bag.

As to why they do it - sales and to impress crowds and especially someone like those Serb kids who`ll post the video on their ''PowerRossiya4ever'' YT accounts.

The one thing those maneuvers do demonstrate is airframe durability. But then again, if AMRAAAM/AIM-9X catches you - will only save you 1-2 seconds to bail out of canopy.

There is nothing dangerous in those maneuvers - 99% of modern aircraft use fly-by-wire systems to control inherent design instability and recovery systems that will lever your aircraft out for you if you pass out or something happens to you - for long enough period for you to snap back.

Thrust vectoring at this point should be used only in flying wing designs like webm related (likely F-A/F-X replacement will have it to have the best stealth characteristics (see latest Northrop concept art for it) while retaining maneuverability) or stunt planes.

But since Su engine and airframe has been optimized to have it, it`d most likely be more of a burden to get rid of it than remove it for cost optimization

>For one, they don't fatigue, so during prolonged combat they'll eventually overtake the performance of human loaders.

I'm a dilletante but it seems to me that tank battles would be bursty. The Abrams loads 40-55 rounds, depending on the version, according to Wikipedia. I would think you could fire off half of your rounds without getting fatigued, and by then wouldn't the battle be decided? I'm thinking 20 rounds at 1 per 4 seconds is gonna be a lot more useful in combat than 55 rounds at 1 per 6 seconds.
