Right before she started, some guy had got sucked into it by his apron, and it crushed him to death. Before that, they gave the employees no safety training with the machine. I've been in many EXTREMELY high pressure situations, which were life and death out of fucking no where. Each and every time I reacted quickly and (I'd like to think) very level headed. I've lost people during these situations, but I've also saved people while everyone else is practically flopping around like fish.
Once I was actually fapping here midday, and got a knock. Tucked my boner and answered a few seconds later, and a few seconds after that I was calling 911 because the dude across the street got shocked in some dumb fucking accident and all the meth heads over there couldn't find a phone. Not only was I the one on the phone with the EMS the whole time, but gave the dude all the help I could while his entire family ran around like floppy dildo's screaming his name. Sure, he was already blue and covered in shit/piss when I got there, but I still tried (dragging his fatass 350lb ass out by myself, past live wires which basically killed him, and giving him CPR).
That's just one specific case, but I attribute at least some of this level-headed-ness to these threads. I still cringe a ton at really disturbing things, and empathize greatly, but it desensitized me JUST ENOUGH to be able to tune it out and get shit done.

Autopilots are capable of performing nearly all phases of any passenger flight. Of course aircraft have "manual" controls but nowadays most are fly-by-wire and they too work just fine. No system is perfect but those are certainly acceptable.
Humans who don't work with technology tend to fear it. As an avionics tech and aircraft mechanic I'm not worried about autonomous vehicle tech because it will be heavily tested prior to fielding. Of course it will kill some people, but if the rate per mile travelled is equal to or less than the current casualty rate (which rate we accept so much that if our best friend died in a car crash we'd think nothing of driving to the funeral) that makes them a fine idea.
