Is there a free version of photoshop or something similar to it that I can try? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

there's nothing like photoshop tbqh. you can search on youtube for photoshop cs6 portable (weights around 60mb and has almost all features)

Either pirate it or try out Krita. I think it's much better than GIMP. It's actually much closer to Photoshop than GIMP.

For image editing and some drawing theres gimp, for just drawing either krita or firealpaca
I use the student/teacher Adobe creative cloud plan. It's only $20 a month for every single Adobe program. I know you're asking about something free, but if you want all of the best, and updated regularly, then I'd recommend this. If you aren't a student you can probably create a fake schedule to send them. I didn't even have to send them one but I can't speak for everyone.
