Help guys,
I have completed a task for a job interview and have to return with my "mechanical" files. Can someone explain what this really means?
If it means ready to print, which settings should I ensure I used on my files??

It means finished, deliverable projects. Often delivered as packaged InDesign folders.

How can I make sure they find what they're looking for?

It's less what they're looking for and more so that they have all the resources and assets available if need be. If you package up all the fonts and assets in an InDesign folder, you know for a fact that whoever opens it will be able to see it exactly as you do; with all the proper fonts and images and everything, instead of them opening it and getting a "Font Missing: Replace?" message, etc.

if you don't know what they'd learn from those files or why they'd want to see them, you're prrrrooooobably not qualified for the job.
I mean, hell yeah, fake it til you make it, most people do that to some degree. However if they want say a print designer or web designer and you fundamentally don't understand how to deliver that sort of work, you're gonna have a stressful time m8
