I want to get more involved in video editing as a hobby. What're some good video editing programs? doesn't need to be anything too fancy, would just like some more options. I'm using movie maker right now, but it's pretty shit and doesn't have many options to do stuff, although i dig the simplicity of it.
any other advice regarding video editing would be appreciated too :)
after effect is very cool for motion design and compositing and you can also use with premier to mount

Dude, use Premiere pro.

For 1 month i've been creating Uncharted music video for one blogger's contest. That's my first video edit experience ever. Could you give me some feedback on my work? Is it good or bad?

Thanks for your opinion.
I like the music too. Really adore dubstep epic music remixes. Firstly i was going to use this awesome track https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cH_kNJvsoaA but considered that using Avatar soundtrack (remix or not no matter) will be banal a bit.

Thanks for the info!

These are multiplayer frag movies. I'm more intersted in singleplayer music videos. Something like that https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AG8idq23KVM (rather cool work as for me)

Thanks for these examples, they are really great. One of my favourite intros - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GJCvU-91eAo
How does one achieve an effect like this?

Resolve by DaVinci is free, they used it to edit a documentary made about the Foo fighters, DaVinci is known for their amazing color correction and association with black magic.

Too many distortion effects. It makes watching the video completely impossible.

please Anon, don't ever tell that to anyone. Ever.
Also, film school student Anon here. I would recommend Adobe Premiere, for multiple reasons. Even though it's just a hobby for you, if you get good at it and ever want to do actual work Premiere is used mostly everywhere, in film schools and on actual film sets. Avid may be a good choice too, but since lots of films require SFX made in Aftereffects, Premiere works better because both or Adobe software and play well together. Even though it's considered a "professional" software, it's not hard to use (especially if you're generally acquainted with Adobe interfaces) and since it's so popular, the internets are full of plugins and tutorials for it.
After effects is cool for sfx but for montage Adobe première is cool for bis montage or you can use Sony Vegas

Sony Vegas is alright, but it's very simple. If you want to make more than a simple movie, I'd recommend Adobe After Effects. I'd recommend Cinema4D for 3D animations. Mess around with it, thats the best way of learning it.

It's entirely possible to edit as well in WMM as in Premiere. It's a taboo though because ' muh' payed software.
I'm don't recommend WMM though, that would be idiotic. Just that if it's a hobby it's completely fine. Just be sure to use the new one (live movie maker) because the old one can't export in the formats you need.

>' muh'
Fuck you
>payed software.
Almost everybody pirated it.

>It's entirely possible to edit as well in WMM as in Premiere
Fuck off it is. Don't listen to this wanker, OP. Get Premiere/After Effects or FCP - pirated or paid (who gives a shit).
I can't even believe this dickhead suggested such a dumb thing. Fuck.

It's like watching a 90s night-time programme
Id say premier / after effects for complex editing like intro design, 3d graphics, montages but sony vegas for basic editing like making YouTube videos like Jacksepticeye basic split and cut(Still has good tools and plugins)
I've been hired to edit a short trailer (2-4 minutes) for a Charlie Kaufman retrospective at a local theater to play before movies. I've edited a lot of promos for this theater before but they were more along the lines of music videos--I would pick a song that fit the mood and cut clips together on and off the beat, usually with little to no dialogue. This time they want a heavier emphasis on dialogue but I'm just having a hell of a time finding the right soundbites. It's hard enough to do when cutting together a promo for single movie, but when you have five post modern movies with all kinds of crazy shit happening it seems impossible. On one hand I want to use clips that are more universal to Kaufman's themes but if I do that the sound bites are vague enough they end up making it sound like his movies are all just horribly depressing.
Any tips?

Like for a retrospective it makes more sense to keep dialogue low since you have a ton of different themes and plots for each movie
Like you want to have just a few key quotes to remind people of the movies
But with Kaufman that's especially hard since his movies are so strange that to try to capture them in a single quote is pretty difficult.
