it conveys the emotion and mystery that NIN had at the time. a groundbreaking album that's very moody and experimental
the design breaks new ground in graphic design, aimed at the fans first, who already know the logo. it's serious music that isn't, ironically, about marketing
also, it's awesome looking
dark
heavy
kind of strangely erotic
ambient
much like how my bloody valentine's loveless cover is, except i hate the text on the MBV cover
