Is a Signal Intrusion like Max Headroom even possible in this day and age?
>>
Haven't you made enough of these threads on other boards?

Yes, it has happened several times since then. None of it has been too spectacular though.

Never been caught, greenhorn.

Not really. At least for 99% of broadcasts.

Analogue microwave links are long gone, and instead point-to-point digital fibre links are much more common in both radio and television.
To intrude on digital signals is much, much harder.

Off-the-air analogue radio repeaters are your only chance in this day and age.
They operate by receiving a station and then re-transmitting it on another frequency.
If you were to use the FM capture effect, and broadcast on the receiving frequency close to the repeater, the repeater would 'lock onto' your signal instead of the intended one.
This is by far the easiest, although off-the-air transmitters are becoming less common. But it does have the added bonus of being virtually undetectable if you don't do it for too long.

yes, but you'll have to hijack the signal in the actual building and that will be very hard. you won't be able to connect from the outside.

The best one was that Super Bowl where they played 15 seconds of porn, in the town that lost

You can do it from the outside, for example if the digital links are wireless and unencrypted, but it is beyond difficult.

In some cases, the multiplexed output that is being broadcast is sent to the transmitter from the studio.
You would need to analyse the transport stream, and then re-create it using your own equipment.
If PIDs and shit don't match, most receivers would need to be retuned to receive your signal.
This is either really, really expensive or hard.
Then you would basically need a complete digital broadcast chain running from the back of a van.
Mixers, encoders, multiplexers, modulators, etc.

The good news is that because it is seen as such a difficult thing to pull off, there is very little in the system to prevent you once you start.
I've actually seen in once case where the transmitter was controlled from the same signal which sent the broadcast signal from the studio. In this case, the only way to stop you would be to send an engineer to physically change the parameters of the ML or transmitter.
