Is the Vive or any VR worth buying right now?
Literally nobody talks about it anymore.
I'll take that as a no.

The only people that buy VR right now are weak-minded gaymurs. The content for it is shovelware and the technology is overpriced and still in its infancy. If you do buy one, the Vive is the only real option as Oculus has like 9% of the marketshare and is owned by Facebook.
>>55605810
Do you have a source for the market share? I'm genuinely interested.
>>55605868
Shut up.

Riftcat/vridge
Save yourself money. Used vr on my pc this way and decided that it's a meme right now. Has potential but right now it's a waste of money.

I just use mine, no need to talk about it, especially not here. Not the right audience for VR at /g/. Too poor, too young, too many think they are 'special'. But I love my Vive. So does every single person that tries it.
I use it for sims, porn and then whatever else is out there. No shovelware. I just applied a change that improved my visual fidelity incredibly..but no reason to share that shit here in /g/. And no, I don't play in /v/. That's like hanging out in a daycare.
>>55605931
What "change" did you apply?
>>55605868
The leddit is spreading faggot
If the concept intrigues you and you can afford it, yes it's worth it IMO. I am not regretting it at least, but I owned both DK1 and DK2 so I knew what I was getting.
It's a fantastic leap in consumer technology but I think the next generation of headsets and pc hardware would be better suited to the task.
Early adopting is best left to people who abscess over it and not just be intrigued by it.

It's pretty good for roomscale porn, feels nice to lift a little girl's skirt with your vive controller

>Is the Vive or any VR worth buying right now?
Right now? Either be prepared to buy all three major HMDs (Rift, Vive, PSVR), or none. Either through de-facto or economic exclusivity, without all three there will be a large number of games and other experiences you will miss out on, and the amount of things to do in VR is still small.
If you want one HMD that can be sued to experience most things, AND have lots of things to experience, you;re best off waiting for
Gen 2 or Gen 3, to allow for prices to drop through production volume, and for a common featureset to stabilise to allow for a universal API to be developed (all three are currently proprietary).

>Either be prepared to buy all three major HMDs (Rift, Vive, PSVR), or none.
That's complete nonsense. The Vive can play all Rift games via revive, and the Rift is supported by SteamVR and will presumably support almost all Vive games when Oculus Touch comes out.
Bottomline, most games will work on any headset, and even if that wasn't the case, that's like saying you have to buy a PS4, Xbox One, and Wii U, or none at all.

€ 899.00 for what max of 100 hours of gameplay? Not worth it since you also gotta buy those VR games that like 20 euros. You're paying 8.9 euros (not counting the games) a hour pretty much for a mediocore experience. While you could get a game like CS:GO, Skyrim, Fallout NV/3/4 or Gmod and easily spend 500 hours in each of them while they're all low priced games.
>>55606832
VR is not just for games.
>>55606880
Yes there's also porn.
>>55606530
There's a few people that replace the default foam to something thinner. Gets the sweet spot better for some people and higher field of view as well.
You can also render at 1.5 the resolution if you have a 980 Ti or better which actually helps tons.
>>55606896
And art and productivity like 3D modeling and simulations and you can develop for it
>>55606880
Most consumers will buy it for games.
>>55605446
Too expensive.
They need to scale the production and make them $100-$200 ish for more people to buy.
Got a dk2 at launch, enjoyed the shit out of it but now my shitty laptop got axed by the new runtime.
I 'll spend for psvr now, and wait for 2nd generation PC vr when all this chaos stop and there'll be a clear winner or at least I am sure that the product I'll choose will pander to me.
Vr its a dream that I have since childhood and I don't care if its still a gimmick or whatever the fucking buzzword you use, I've won.

It's a pretty fun toy if you can afford it
I've been playing raw data all day, my legs are sore
It's an expensive sex toy and huge boon to (activity where you sit in a chair) simulators.
It's alright.
