The GPU looks odd because its fucking gigantic. Overclocked, it holds 60c at full furmark load with the fans set at 40%, and they only turn on after 50c.

Don't worry, just rotate all four knobs (doing opposite sides) as the arrow shows, pull them up, take it off, rotate the knobs back and check the plastic "arrowheads" on the bottom so the plastic middle piece is not between them. just put it back and push in the pins. Always do opposite sides and you will be fine. If you break the cooler it's about five dorra in any repair shop.

Well, see, funny as you suggest, that's the only BW-E CPU I don't want. I want the 40 PCI lanes.

I'd make use of a 6950X, but they're just so damn expensive. It's like for the percentage of the time all those extra cores would actually benefit me greatly, I don't know if it's worth the cost over the 6900K, or even just settling on the 6850K.

That board and RAM go so well together.
>>
>>55594166
>I want the 40 PCI lanes
I doubt you'll actually make use of them however.

Even dual GTX 1080 wouldnt saturate x8/x8 a PCIe 3.0 link.

Well. A contact of mine has two new GTX 980's, sealed in the box. And is offering to sell them to me for like $550. So, with three GPU's I'd be using.. What, 32 lanes still I think? One 16, and two 8's. Plus another 4 from an NVMe SSD. So 36. And I want a PCIe x1 screen capture device.

I'd be pretty close. I just don't know if it's really worth buying three 980's. New 980's otherwise are like $400ish still. Some are $450. And it wold certainly make my case look more bad-ass/full. I'd imagine they'd be relatively good at gaming for a while, too. And, the watercooling parallel bridge I need to get for SLI is actually a triple one anyways, because of my GPU spacing on the motherboard.

I thought SLI worked well in AAA titles, or at least a good portion of them? I don't really play games other than those, to be honest. He is offering me one 980 for just about $350 on it's own though. So, perhaps I'll just do 2x SLI. Seeing as I already have my old 980.
>>
>>55594326
>>55594297
Actually, my PSU doesn't even have enough power cables for tri-SLI, so, regular SLI it is. lol
>>
>>55594123
I have an extremely similar build to that
>>55593348
How did you get the DH15 first fan to sit above the RAM? I moved mine to the back and offset it because there was a plastic moulding on the mobo in the way.
>>
>>55594326
SOME AAA games work with SLI, and usually not immediately at launch unless its a nvidia gameworks game or similar.

So sure, bigger games will work decently with SLI, but scaling still wont be fantastic, and you will still potentially only be using the power of 1 card because the game just doesnt have SLI profiles.

Depending on the games you play you might be fine though.
>>
>>55594362
Well, like I said, I don't even have the PSU connectors, so. Fuck it. lol Just gonna go regular SLI.

Most benchmarks for regular SLI I see shows it as just under double frame rate for the games I play, but, I see adding a third GPU doesn't add much more. You'd think after all these years of multi-GPU, they'd have worked on this better.

You have to code specifically for it, and that's an effort most devs aren't gonna bother to make to any effective degree, considering the very low rate of overall SLI users. Maybe DX12's multiple GPU support will lessen that in the future, but I'm honestly not properly educated on the subject

Now I'm just thinking, are there 92mm AIO water coolers?
Maybe one that could fit in 2 5 1/4" bays?
I could just mount one on the back of the case...
This processor does not need one at all, I max at 60c under entirely full load, but it would be cool (pun not intended)

Fixed the GPU sag with black zip ties on the back end of the backplate though the rubber grommets and tied to the back of a zip tie hook on the back of the mobo tray.

>>55600165
It supports AMD crossfire, but I'm not seeing support for SLI.

Also, it runs the PCI-e lanes at x16/x4 So the first card gets full bandwidth, but the 2nd card gets 1/4 bandwidth.

If you install another PCIe device in the PCI-e3 x1 lane, the 2nd GPU would be further reduced to x2 bandwidth.
>>
>>55600195
Thanks. Looking for a matx board to run sli but also a sound card. Having trouble finding one.
>>
>>55600217
You will need Z170 probably. Z170 has 20 PCI-e lanes, plus another 16 PCI-e lanes provided by your CPU.

B150 has 8 PCI-e lanes plus 16 provided by the CPU.

So 36 PCIe lanes on Z170 vs 24 PCIe lanes on B150.

>>
>>55600280
There are at least a few, there was a guy with one a few days before the launch date even.
>>
>>55600251
Thank again. Im not really sure what that really means though. Not well informed when it comes to motherboards but ill use that info to do some research.
>>
>>55600411
Basically your PCI devices require PCIe lanes to talk to the CPU. These lanes provide a certain amount of bandwidth. For a GPU you generally want x8 or x16. With 36 PCIe lanes (z170) you can run two GPUs at x16/x16 (16+16=32) and your sound card at x1 bandwidth. And you'd still have some PCI lanes left over for another PCI-e device, or w/e.

With B150 since you only have 24 PCI lanes and the chipset wont allow x8/x8 on GPUs so you're forced to use x16/x4 and then you'd have 4 remaining PCIe lanes for your sound card.

Z170 is perferrable as you'd be able to run BOTH GPUs at x16/x16 instead of x16/x4 on the B150 chipset.
>>
>>55600463
Thanks for the dose of knowledge. Ive been thinking about upgrading to skylake so i might just do it. So a z170 board no matter the configuration of the lanes will work that way?
>>
>>55600646
Pretty sure yeah, should be easy to tell if you look at the motherboard specifications though, they should list PCI slots and their bandwidth.

But yes, Z170 should support x16/x16 + other devices.

Most decent GPU's are heavy fucks. My case actually helped with sag guessing the PCI slots were actually level to the cards and the mount was sturdy enough.

1. Can someone recommend me a good PSU
2. Can someone recommend me a good motherboard.

T-thanks oniichans.
>>
>>55614955
Alright kohai, you want an 80+ gold rated Modular power supply around 500-600w, Should cost ~$70-100 USD.
If you want to be cheap you can get something that isn't modular, but i'd stick with a decent company, some corsair units, EVGA, Seasonic, etc.

as for motherboard, just get something under $200 with the features you want and Z170 chipset. You aren't doing anything specific so it shouldnt matter too much what motherboard you get.

How's the noise level of ACX 3.0 from EVGA'?
I bought the FE (is acutally cheaper than every other variant in germany) and even the idle noise is.... noticable. Not very loud but I hear it, which sucks.

Is there a store where I can buy the ACX 3.0 for reference board design? (EVGA 1080 SC is usually reference board)

It's amazing how quiet it is, the fans don't spin at all when idle (or whenever I choose, even at 100% load). And even at 75% fan speed I can't hear them at all, while at 100% it's clearly audible but not nearly as loud as my old 770. I love it.
