I've just acquired an i5 2500k and an Asus P8H61 with a low-tier cooler for £95 together. What do you guys think about that price?
I'm aware that the motherboard isn't able to overclock. I'll be purchasing a better motherboard and cooler when finances permit.
I'll be carrying over my other parts from my old Pentium G3258 build.

The i5 2500k is still a beast of a CPU. That's a good upgrade anon. Also, the price is pretty good.

Get a Z68 motherboard, get either an H110 or a Noctua cooler, overclock to 4.5Ghz and then add an RX 480 and you'll have an excellent gaming rig.

As they said, an OC capable mobo, and a current meme card of your choice and you're set.

As youre comfortable with used hardware, you may be able to save yourself some money and get a 7970 or a GTX 780.

OP here, I couldn't afford the Haswell i5 and benchmarks looked good for the Sandy Bridge i5 2500k so I went for it.
