And what is /g/'s opinion on fonts with ligatures?

I recently discovered fonts with support for ligatures and I have started using FiraCode myself.

There is also this site where you can try out 50 free monospace fonts.

I used to use Source Code Pro, it's really nice.

There is a fork of source code pro with support for ligatures. Too bad it's mostly aimed for the haskell users.

I've been using DejaVu Sans Mono (based on Bitstream Vera) since forever. Ligatures in the context of fixed-width terminal/programming fonts actually hurt readability IMO.

Interesting, how so? Or is it just personal preference?

In programming, where a single symbol can change the entire logic, it better be represented by an easy to distignuish, separate glyph.

This just seems like a really terrible idea.
Part of the appeal of monospace fonts is the unambiguity of logic operators and no kerning to fuck it up regardless of how poor the printing is in your textbook.

How the fuck am I supposed to know the exact symbol sequence required to create ~~~> or whatever the fuck that's supposed to be?
