I want to run some servers (wiki, ftp, etc.) on a separate computer with a decent HD on it (probably 1TB).

Mostly just for personal use and fun. Is anyone else doing this or tried this? Would like to hear some stories about how it went for you?

Also I wonder where to find all the potential boards for it. I know about raspi and don't want one so I'm thinking I'll probably get a beaglebone black.

What do people mean they want to run servers?

To me all servers are, are game servers like hosting your own bf4 server or minecrap server...

I guess ftp makes sense, but what the fuck do you mean running a wiki server. What even is that?

But wtf is a wiki server. Like you're gonna make your own wiki for whatever and then host it? Or you're hosting an already established wiki just for yourself? If not how do you host it and get it out to public?

Beaglebone black won't be much better than RPi for that, and it costs more.

depends on the workload anon, if it's only you accessing that stuff, RPi will do fine.

if you're making a fileserver, you probably want something with gigabit ethernet and a sata or usb3 port, otherwise it'll be pretty slow
rpi's make shit file servers, because they only have usb2, and the ethernet is 100Mbit, and also on the usb2 bus

something like the orange pi would be much better, as it's got gigabit eth and sata
