What do the power / reset buttons on my mainboard do? Can't get the thing to POST, so wondering if I should try pressing the power button on the mainboard. Pretty sure I plugged in all the cables correctly, so idk why it's not working.

Power and reset are the exact same thing on the front of the case. Power is on/off, reset is a hard reboot.
Did you set the CPU correctly?

I was *very* careful when inserting the CPU. i5 2500k, it's my baby.

Got the mainboard second hand though (Asus Z68), and they didn't send a mainboard speaker attachment, unless the thing has one built onto the board already.

I would suggest you buy a speaker and google the beep code along with the motherboard version.
