My $37 mechanical keyboard off aliexpress just came in:
http://www.aliexpress.com/item/LINGBAO-JIGUANSHI-Backlit-Computer-Game-mechanical-keyboard-black-shaft-green-axis-computer-emitting-metal-87-key/32653111593.html

Shipping only took exactly 2 weeks, so that's great.

I'll try to take some photos and write a short review later, but at least I can confirm it does have black gateron switches. Crazy value if you can live with ugly keycaps and shitty backlighting(the versions with blue and no backlight don't come with black switches).

Now if I could only figure out how to turn the damn backlight off...
>>
What's the advantage of using a mechanical keyboard? I always skip these threads but I've become just a tiny bit curious on why would anyone spend over 30 dollars on a keyboard.
>>
You faggots LITTERALLY pay hundreds of dollars for ugly, tiny, and loud as fuck keyboards when a $20 membrane does the exact same thing. Fucking kek
>>
>>55552847
With how dirty my fucking keyboards get, membrane keyboards are much more convenient. I get enough variety that if a $10/$20 keyboard ends up getting real shitty after a year I can just get another.

On the other hand, having to clean a keyboard every once in a while, paying 60 bucks for it just so I can annoy everyone else around the place, yeah, fuck that.

MUH EPIC CLACKITY KEYBOARD. Rubber domes haven't been inferior to mechanicals for 10+ years now. The only reason this retarded shit exists because "gaymur gear" companies resurrected this outdated technology because of the insane markup they could charge, especially now that the cherry license ended. Why do you think 90% of mechanical keyboards have HELLA EPIC backlights? This shit is made for the same retard manchild audience as 5.1 headsets.

Sup /mkg/, I'm looking to make my first mechanical keyboard purchase. I think I've settled on the CODE 104 with MX Clears. I just like the minimalism and the fact that it's available with the clears.

I'd like to make a couple of modifications, though. The board comes with ABS keycaps; I'd like to replace those with PBT doubleshots, like this:

http://www.wasdkeyboards.com/index.php/products/keycap-set/pbt-104-key-cherry-mx-keycap-set-backlit-doubleshot-black.html

However I need to know if these caps are in fact compatible with the CODE and will work with the backlighting. I'm guessing they will, but I wanted to be sure because it says on the CODE website FAQ:

"We do not have any replacement/add-on keycap sets for the CODE. WASD Keyboards can make custom keys that can fit the CODE, but the legends will not be illuminated as our keys do not work with backlighting."

Maybe someone can confirm?

I'd also like to add 0.2mm travel reduction O-rings to the board to further reduce noise, I was thinking of these:

https://www.amazon.com/Cherry-Rubber-O-Ring-Switch-Dampeners/dp/B00XAP8COI

Seems like 50A would be nicer than the usual 40A, especially since this will see some use for gaming and I don't want the bottom-out to feel squishy while holding keys down.

Thoughts, suggestions, criticism?

>>55561182
How the fuck would any of us know if they suit you for gaming?
It's entirely personal preference and you can game with any switch equally good if you practice long enough.
Just buy a keyboard that suits you well, that gives you a deep feeling of pleasure, that is a choire of angels to your ears, that gives your fingertips feelgasms and just use that shit for everything and all and call it a day.
If you really like typing and keyboards this won't be your last board anyway.

Location: TX, USA.
Layout: ANSI, full size with 10 key preferred, but tenkeyless is acceptable
Switch: Cherry MX Red
Other requirements: Must be backlit, preferrably a not so bright color like red. No contoured keys. Alternatively colored keys are fine, just nothing that feels different like the WASD keys on a Corsair K70. Nothing retarded like a touchpad on the keyboard. Preferrably black case/keycaps but this doesn't really matter.

What is the cheapest keyboard I can find with these specs? Found some Duckys for around $110, but not sure if there's better/cheaper stuff out there.

Your haven't looked very hard in that case.

Gateron clear - 35g linear
Gateron tactile clear - basically zealios with a different color stem, 65g iirc
Cherry clears - tactile, actuation at 55g, bottoms out at nearly 100g

it's not bad i guess but it's my first mx like kbd so i really can't say
however it's much better than my plastic rubber dome k120, typing is nice and i like it

i can't take a clear enough picture but the switches appear to be outemu
at least thats whats written on them

i would have uploaded a webm but my connection is crappy atm, maybe in a few days

if you do happen to order one have in mind that the packaging is not that great and they barely put any soft material in the box, mine was obviously well smashed

First MK was a Ttesports Poseidon ZX with Blue Switches. Wasn't too happy with it, so I returned it and used the money to buy a Model M. Fucking love it, best keyboard I've ever used.
>>

how much did you pay?

$45 for the keyboard, $10 for the cable. All the switches work and it's in pretty good condition so even if I could've found one for cheap or free somewhere else I'm more than happy with the deal I got.
