Vaporwave is an a e s t h e t i c involving pastel colors and 90's nostalgia. That word has a bunch of spaces in it because it is the parent group to a bunch of *waves, and also it's own thing.
Some people got mad that they can't have their desktop threads no more here, but then they got less mad.
There are less mods/janitors on /g/ so they can't do their duties as effectively.
Ricing is very much alive but people seem to be rubbing it in people's faces less. Get it the way you like it and it's good. Also the lovely gents at /fa/ and /gd/ have phone ricing threads so it's less of a /g/ thing now.

Desktop threads were banned due to cancerous tripshits and circlejerking. It was 99% "le dank meme anime culture xDD blogging" and maybe 1% actually interesting desktops (few and far between since most people just tried as hard as possible to look exactly like everyone else).
Basically a few failed norms desperate for a sense of companionship turned it into a chat room and ruined a perfectly good topic for everyone.
