If you can't even use Google there's no hope for you to be decent at programming
>>
>>55510777
I just wanted to hear what you guys had to say.
Most sites that I've found on Google say python is a good starting point. Is that true?
>>
>>55510796
No, learn c++ first, every other programming language is useless
>>
Just look up cs50 edx. The psets can be pretty tough for a beginner though

Yes

I've learned more from one week reading "The C Programming Language ANSI C" than I did months fucking around with codeacademy and other tutorial sites.
Start with C
>>
>>55510796
Learn Java first. It translates into other languages well. Python is too different from others. Java can translate easier into c++, c, c#, etc.
>>
>>55510931
this. pick any well reviewed book, leave /g/ (this is extremely important), read the entire thing, then start working on a project.
>>
>>55510734
What do you want to program? Mobile? Web? Find something you want to make, then look into what language is the easiest to get into.

If you're goal is just to 'learn' you won't do shit. You need to start with some sort of project and go from there.
>>
>>55510975
I want to create the greatest porn/hentai search engine ever!
What is the best language for this?
>>
>>55510796
Python is useless. Start with c/c++, they're just as easy but aren't a meme. When you get the hang of things switch to Java or go deep into c++

not OP but i've been kinda using codeacademy to learn java but it doesn't really feel like it teaches you anything besides, "insert one variable in prestructured code block", I haven't made it far but it hasn't really taught me anythinga bout syntax or structuring code besides saying "add a semicolon to the end of every line", is code academy actually helpful or is it shit? any better alternatives?
>>
>>55513271
This. I feel like there are terms and other things I should be learning. But I feel like books would technically be outdated to learn about it.
>>
>>55513271
>>55513370

I just use YouTube tutorials. Some of the programs the guy uses are a little bit behind in terms of updates, but the tutorial still makes sense because the changes aren't anything exponential.
>>
Somewhat related, I can't get any inspiration for anything to code. I've google extensively to no avail, does anyone have some good project ideas for an amateur dumb /g/ poster to code in java?
>>
>>55514289
Depends on your skull level. If you are a beginner, try implementing existing things (eg arraylist). Not because you really need that but for practicing.
>>
Learn one of the big 3 first Java, C++, and C
Do this buy buying a book of the language
Then move onto the languages you can make cool stuff with(/g/ with call these the meme ones)
Ruby
Python
Js
>>
>>55511231
>just as easy

Just don't be too dependant on the libraries that exist on the language you choose

Read some stuff about programming logic and algorythms, it's important
>>
>>55510734
What is that and why is it looking at me like that?
>>
What are some good books to learn c++? I don't really mind spending a bit of money to get a good book to learn how to program better? I was looking on google and found this, and it has good reviews. Should I order it?
