It's a pretty good laptop. I think they're doing a hardware refresh later this summer, so wait until then to buy. Then you can buy the new version, or get a discount on the other ones.
I'm planning on buying one to replace my current laptop when I can afford it. A laptop/tablet combo that DOESN'T suck? I'm sold.

Wait for the refresh. The current model suffers from a bunch of stupid defects in the firmware. Mine is about 2 weeks old and will randomly disconnect from the keyboard / screen will go black. Check out some support forums and you'll see some systemic issues.

Go with a Surface Pro 4 instead, or wait for the SP5. The keyboards on them are good now, and the Surface Book really doesn't have good battery life if you take the keyboard off. It's a neat concept, but there's definitely a difference between the overall quality and engineering of the SP4 and SB. The "workstation" graphics card is barely better in performance than the integrated chip, the only things that benefit from it is CAD or games that use a lot of video memory.
