Most decent motherboards are rated for up to 300w from the PCIe lane (Not slot but the motherboard does not care about individual slots it uses the power pull across all slots. It's why you can put more than 1 GPU on there). So it's bullshit really. The only boards that might die are those that can't handle more pull to begin with.

With mods? You mean with a fucking daughterboard made by a professional overclocker that works for Asus that requires you to solder it to your brand new card (which you aren't going to do) and hits the thermal ceiling of the card unless it's on water, and even then only allows you to run 1500mhz for around five minutes before crashing?
