I never go above 8 so I'm content with just 16gb.

I get that people like to either future proof their PC or do video editing, which I've seen take 12gb of ram, but for games and programming I feel 8gb is more than enough and spend the 30 extra dollars on a better graphics card instead.

What do you prefer?

Certain games can use a goodly bit these days. I would consider 16gb bare minimum at this point simply due to shit like GTA V eating 9gb.
