Hey /g/ I'm trying to find a laptop for school. I'm an engineering major and it's to my understanding that some programs we use can be taxing. I also like to game in my free time.
Here are things I absolutely require for a laptop:
- ~$1000 or less
- no larger than 15in screen / 13in prefered
-1080p
- can run source engine games
- can run 3d CAD type programs (not necessarily fast, as I have a pretty beefy computer at home)
- 5+ hours of battery life while browsing the webs / non intensive tasks
- fan dB < leaf blower while doing non intensive tasks (such as taking notes in class, so I don't offend everyone around me with leaf blower sounds)
- no less than 256gb SSD OR a 500gb HDD
Here are things I would like, buy could live without:
- upgrade-able / replaceable internals (I've been looking at some newer thinkpads b/c of this)
-numpad
-light up keyboard (not alienware spec, just would like to be able to see the keyboard at night)
-non-shitty built in microphone (for gayming)
-SD card reader
-hdmi or dvi port
-doesn't weigh a lot
I've looked at t560 , the xps 13 and 15, macbook air (yikes), and Dell Inspirons
I'm just feeling a little lost and overwhelmed with all the different shit that's out there. Any help is welcome
