With every major release I go through and check to see what Mozilla has added. I use debian, so I use the ESR version of firefox, which might have preferences that either don't exist anymore, or have been renamed. Additionally, there might be more services that Mozilla added which should be disabled.
The only way to check is to go into about:config and skim through the choices.

It sounds bad, but I've viewed the about:config entries so many times over the years that I can spot anything that I've never seen before pretty easily.

This one's a bit outdated and not as extensive as pyllyukko or ghacks. For example, there is no longer any switch to enable or disable websockets. You must instead set network.websocket.max-connections to 0.

I don't use flash at all, but it's a preference that is part of firefox so I disabled it.

Unfortunately none that I know of. I basically just create a new temporary profile, go into the about:config, and then look for preferences. If a preference isn't present within about:config anymore, I remove it.
