Why is Microsoft Windows so hard to use /g/?
>Putting a program in startup
Windows:
>Right click the Windows icon
>Click run
>type regedit
>Manually click heaps of folders
>HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
>User startup is in an entirely different directory
>Create a new key with the script you want to execute.
>Not to mention MSDOS is shit
Linux:
>Create a script
vim /etc/init.d/memes
>make the script executable
chmod -x memes
>Initialize it
update-rc.d memes default
put it the program you want to start at boot (or a shortcut) inC:\Documents and Settings\username\Start Menu\Programs\Startup
Was that so fucking hard?
>make the script executable
>chmod -x memes
>>55372808
you can just run a script by putting a shortcut into the startup folder, I'm running some powershell scripts this way.
there's no need to fiddle with the registry at all.

What you're calling Linux is actually gnu.
>>55372844
So you don't have to give it any elevated permission? Is security on wincux that much of a shit?
>>55372866
I don't know mate, it works pretty fucking well on my machine.
I use it to login into my internet on my XP machine on boot (it does't have an automatic login like vista and above), and it works really well - less than a second after the blue "welcome" screen I'm already in.

Ah, w10 works a bit differently I guess
>>55372808
you forgot macOS
>Click System Preferences in the Apple menu
>Click Users and Groups
>Click Login Items
>Click the + symbol and choose your application from the list, or if you know what you want, enter the path in /usr/bin/

lol so you can't add a program to automatically start on Linux? You need to use a script to call the program? At least in Windows you don't need a bash script that doesstart <program>you can just add the executable file.
Windows also has GUI apps to manage autostart of program. Does Linux have that?

Yes, but how is that a plus?
>>55372959
There's a bunch for startup management programs for Linux users but if you're so brain dead to enter 3 commands into the terminal you can simply alias them in a bashrc.
Terminal is always faster friendo :^)
>>55372959
You can write a script or just run the binary in Linux. In windows is run the binary or bust unless you're will to wrestle with the bastard child that is power shell.

i prefer

user services
most DE's have simple gui for adding automatically-started programs
