Has anyone seen the benchmarks done on the RX 480 with the new AMDGPU-PRO and the open-source stack? The performance of the PRO stack is pretty good, managing to keep up with equivalent NVidia cards. Pic related, the bars with PRO represent the PRO stack, the ones without represent the open Mesa/Gallium3D stack.

But the amazing thing is the performance of the open stack, which came from absolute shit on the launch of the Fury cards, to actually pretty good, and comparable to the proprietary drivers of both AMD and NVidia.

Is the RX 480 now the card for the people that support freedom?

This is probably the #1 reason to buy this card.

We actually should be promoting open source support, not proprietary garbage

Too bad you will have to wait til kernel 4.7 drops
>>
>>55328256
True, but at least it has day-one open-source driver support. This is unprecedented. Nouveau just now started supporting 3D rendering on the GTX 900 series, and has zero support for the 10 series.

bump for linux news. every linux user should know this, the latest AMD GPU is already supported, you only need to install a newer kernel/mesa stack.

Ok, this is relevant to my interest. Wasn't considering high end gaming until now.

Goddamnit AMD. You have made such a powerful card. And it shows! It can beat the fuck out of nVidia. And then you choose to fuck up the drivers. Again. Well, at least only for 50% this time rather than 100%.

Intel is, amd has blobs

Amd drivers have proprietary blobs, only Intel is completely open source
