So /g/. Now that we have seen the launch of the 480 i have but one question for you.
In pic related is all of my Speccy glory. what is the next logical upgrade for me to yield max performance per dollar?
do i go with the 1070? the 480? or just sit on my 660 and upgrade CPU and Mobo?
Eventually (~4 months) i will upgrade everything, but i want to know what /g/ thinks is the best order to do it in and why.

Pic related was taken with CPU and GPU under 100% load using Prime95 and MSI Kombustor.
If it would help i can download a benchmarking tool of your choice and show you the results to derive the weak links.

I suppose i should also say that i plan on doing medium video editing in the future and play minor games (LoL, HS, Overwatch, ect...)

I also only use my two 1080p monitors, but do plan to add an overhead Television to be ran off of the pc as well.

Wait ~2 weeks for AIB 480s, get a 8gb Sapphire or PowerColor PCS+ one, and this in 4 months:

thanks senpai. real quick though, what are the OC capabilities of the Xeon you linked?
>>
go for the 480 if you are on a budget and since 1080p is the resolution,1070 might be a bit overkill.

when the new AMD-cpus come out,upgrade to that,or crab a 6600K and a Z170-mobo from a sale

none, only one motherboard at this moment supports overclocking them with BCLK

well what if i go with a 4K TV for overhead streams and movies? 480 still a good idea? i know the streams and movies aren't graphically demanding things but is it too much to have 4K being displayed even if its not the primary monitor for gaming/editing? GPU would still have to render pixels for it even if it isn't being used.
>>
>>55324736
None, but since you're going for video editing/light gaming a multithreaded 4 core xeon for 80$ less than a 6700k would be a better pick unless you're willing to pay a premium for overclocking capabilities.

>>55324934
Even a 750ti is able to do that. And no, it won't render things unless you enable it

Thanks again senpai. this helps alot.

Slap a fan over the mobo vrms (iirc that mobo has them without a heatsink) and push your cpu to probably 4.3ghz depending on what sort of cooler you have (for the love of god don't do this on the stock cooler).

In fact the fan on the stock cooler is perfect for the job.

Nah it has heat spreaders, and ive gotten it stable to 4.6ghz but recently i think one of the cores is dying because i get random bsod if i push it even above 4.2ghz. amd strikes again i suppose. just another reason im going full blue and green next build.
>>
>>55325249

>4.6ghz
>970 mobo

No wonder your shit is dying - you are pushing that motherboard way beyond its limits. Unless you have a golden sample chip the voltage required will have those vrms frying under load.
>>
>>55325297
thats possible too. i didnt really know what i was doing back when i tried this so i may have fucked myself right out the gates. but now that im a bit more educated i see the error im my ways. 4.4 would be as high as i would go knowing what i know now.

Well, there are all sorts of crazy shit you can do on the cheap to keep those vrms under control (see pic) though in pic related's case I KNOW i'm running shit out of spec.
>>
>>55325397
damn that looks rigged. but i like it. ill most likely do the reverse of what >>55324681
recommended and get the Xeon first and see what the 1060 and 1050 have to offer.
>>
>>55324681
another question. if im going this route, is ECC memory a meme or would it hinder my gaming performance at all? because if i can find a steal on good ECC memory i may need to jump on it if it is actually worth having.
>>
>>55325593

You don't need ECC memory for gaming.
>>
>>55325713
but is it worth for video editing?
>>
>>55325593
It's not a meme if you're not doing data corruption sensitive workloads, but there are other priorities like a raid array, redundant power supply, etc.
>>
>>55325734
perfect. that's the answer i needed. ill just stick to my standard memory then. thanks senpai.
