I have a @live.com account as a requirement to have a Microsoft account.
Now I want to switch to Microsoft Mail. Do I need to register a new account, if I want to have an @outlook.com account?
Why would you ever willingly use Outlook.

you can set up an alias with an @outlook.com ending in the account settings.
then you can choose to receive mails sent to that address in a different folder or in the default inbox
yes your @live.com address will remain intact - you can choose which one you want to use as a primary alias for your account (which will show up in microsoft account related services when logged in)
