Does anyone else have a dedicated HTPC just for watching anime?
No set-top boxes could handle fancy subs and 1080p 10-bit, so I simply bought an old C2D machine and hooked it up to my TV and I can control playback via MPV over ssh on my main machine.
It're pretty comfy.
I was going to do this but then I built a Plex server.
I wanted all my content to be in one place so I can just stream to all my devices. After building my Plex server and streaming to specifically my PS4 to watch anime on TV I realized I didn't need to buy an HTPC which was a shame because I wanted the project. Only issue with plex is it doesn't support ordered chapter which lots of subgroups seem to do now. I just make sure I download batches that don't use ordered chapters.

Plex is a meme. No deband filters for Horriblesubs. Things look like shit on it.

Most S905 android boxes support HEVC and 10bit animu.

Yes, because plex and other things are forced to transcode complicated subtitles and it is sub-optimal.
I'd rather attach a cheap computer to my living room TV.

Why would I want yet another box to suck power?
I have a 15M HDMI cable running from my main computer to my TV and I just screen clone whatever 1 of the 3 screens.

I have an HTPC yes, but it's not exclusive to watching anime. I watch all forms of visual media on it.
Not just for anime, but yes. Also turned it into a Steam Link and Seedbox
Seemed like a better choice because I wanted to run a 24/7 server as well. Running my main PC wouldn't be very economical.
Got a AMD Athlon 5350 in it right now. Will probably wait for Zen before looking at an upgrade
