whats the best way to write C++ applications with the least amount of dependencies as possible? I love using Visual Studio (community of course) but the visual C++ re distributable is a hassle, is there a better way to write stand alone applications?

text editor + compiler
For more complex stuff incl. GUI, look into qt, it's a great fucking framework, and qt creator is a great IDE. You probably should look into that.

i have no issues working in just a text editor, but i dont know of any good compilers that are not part of an IDE
also noob question (and perhaps unrelated) whats a framework? ive read a lot about .NET and such, but i still dont quite understand how it works. I thought it might have something to do with a virtual machine, like C#, but im clueless.
