When we're all old and have grandchildren, will we be as tech illiterate as our parents/grandparents and ask excruciatingly stupid question about technology?
>>
>>55288994
no, because we enjoy learning about technology. they aren't stupid, they just don't care enough to learn
>>
>>55288994
No because we've grown up with technology and had an interest in it for 60 years
>>
I know I won't, I'll always keep up with the technology.
>>
The trend is the other way around these days.

They're growing up with point and drool and a lower portion than ever gets out of that mindset.

this
they were used to the idea of passing school to get a piece of paper that says you're set for life

There are so many tech illiterates in their teenage/young adult years already, while there are plenty of tech savvy old folks.

It just depends on the person. You won't just magically start hating everything, there is usually a reason for that kind of shit. Just lead a good life and you won't fall behind.

Be miserable, have nobody you can love and live in solitude and you will end up a broken old husk that does not care about what those youngsters are doing.

this. they are scared of it for no reason. i've seen old people accidentally figure something out and then stop doing it. i mean, wtf, you figured it out and it did what you wanted it to do. they act like tribespeople.

its a bit different, by the time computers were something you always have around you, they were in their late 40's and no longer cared enough to learn about them

many stagnated in the late 90's/early 2000's with whatever technology they had at the time, my grandpa still has an old windows 98 machine, and my grandmother used an optiplex 330 with dialup for the last 10 years

meanwhile my parents generation adapted, because they were still young when everyone had a home computer, game consoles, and then in their early 30's you got loads of household electronics like cell phones, dvd players, then tablets, smartphones, internet services like amazon prime

i think our generations, generation Y at least, will be technologically competent for quite a while, because we all keep up with technology very well even though it changes so often

im 19, ive gone from thinking a first gen DS and a micronPC clientpro for the sims was top shit, to now owning a custom built computer, an iphone and all sorts of other modern technology

some break the mold though, i have a friend who still uses a flip phone and carries around a digital camera, he just didnt get the idea of having all you need on one device

my great grandma on my mothers side also keeps up with technology, shes can write c and haskell extremely well and knows not only how to assemble her own computer, but how to install any software and use it competently, along with being able to fix 99% of her problems herself

the only thing she doesnt understand with computers is her smartphone, but thats just because she hates touchscreens

I run a PC repair shop, I get dozens of 70+ year olds building computers, asking for gaming machines for farm sim, and just generally wanting to do more on. Some are moving all records to CD and stuff, and they're learning. Always nice to see.

Great question and it depends 100% on your attitude. There's already some 25 year olds acting like these old turds, they are stuck in 2004 with their fucking dumbphones, win xp, nostalgia is cancer and the leading cause of aging then being unreachable. If you're serious about technology you will not be like boomers ever as they literally have been repeating "I didn't have this when I was 10 so I won't ever learn it" for 5-6 decades so they've wasted all that time refusing to learn. Once these luddites die out I personally think there might be a second golden age of tech where you can't make any excuse of designing everything for the stupidest common denominator. The unreachable 25 year olds when offered a job usually switch and the difference is once they see the light it only takes them a couple months to get familiar with the decade they've missed, compare this to boomer spending 6 decades whining and fighting it. It's your choice if you want to be an old fuck at 25 or 85 and I am making the choice to say no.

I like to think not. Most of us were born late enough to be still be young and interested when computers became a thing, yet early enough to still be able to comprehend the very basics like fundamental algorithms and the workings of cpu's. There will be no more 'computer' people: there will be quantum physicists, electronics people, signal analysts, compiler people and framework specialists, but almost nobody understanding computers in its entirety.

They will still think we are stupid though - the things we know about will no langer be considered relevant.

As in consumer electronics tech? I already don't give a shit about that. Smartwatches are the stupidest thing yet.

Though I enjoy programming and using computers to do all sorts of work.

Im 32 and have no kids and no relationship prospects in sight so i doubt i will make it that far in life.
