You can already fuck robots.

I'm positive, that everyone on /g/ will know that this will become a thing. It will gain back lash to the nu-males and looked down upon by women. But it will become a thing. We'll probably see the early consumer stages in our life times.

How long do we achieve an XJ5?

for a sex robot to be successful, you want what?
something that resembles a human, with powerful enough AI to respond to dirty talk?
Or intelligent enough to move on its own?
Or intelligent enough to get up, navigate to the bathroom and clean itself when you are done?
I mean there is a long way to get a fully automatic sex robot that will respond to you.
You might as well ask that it should be able to cook and serve you beer.

automation is not an easy thing. Just look at how the robots that exist in factories. They all have oe job because they is all robots are good at.
The more jobs a thing has to do the harder it gets and no fucking is not one job.

Think of it this way. Take a person and blindfold him and tell him to make a peanut butter sandwhich. The first command you give him is one job and robots can do that one thing very very easily and constantly.
The more thing you tell him, the more the jobs, the more difficult the robot is to make.
You will find there ae a fucking ton of jobs just to make a peanutbutter sandwhich.

You want to make a robot fuck you? well, unless you are weaker then a peanut butter sandwhich in bed I don't see that happening.

kek Did you forget which website you are on? What you just said, while true, is going to seem like foreign gibberish to much of 4chan's userbase. Did I say foreign? Uh oh! That was all wrong. Foreign implies that with a little study, and effort it could be understood, and perhaps fluency even attained. You're thinking about it all wrong. You are thinking of it like they'll basically be realdolls, but more sophisticated. Not really. I'd bet that they would be biological, at least partially. Think about the sort of medical research and breakthroughs we're seeing today. 3D printed organs, in vitro fertilization, genetic engineering, (re)programing the human brain*, shit like that.

There are women who for whatever reason have non-working organs, or, lets face it trans-women who don't have the organs at all. Artificial wombs are on the horizon. They will be a thing within the next few decades. It won't be long before someone realizes, "hey! we can use this technology to make sex robots." It won't be that huge of a jump.

*I'm not talking conspiracy, MKULTRA bullshit here either. Neurologists are actively working on ways to erase unwanted memories from people who have been traumatized, or recover memories in amnesiac patients, and it's actually already been done, and documented with a very promising degree of success. It's something that will be common within a decade. Of course altering a person's memories can, and will lead to abuse of the technology, and you'd have to be naive, or retarded to think otherwise. In time I'm sure it could also be used to program a 3d printed, biological brain for a bio-mechanical sex robot, from scratch.

In the not too distant future, they say we'll all be able to easily, and instantly download new knowledge and skills too, rather than needing to learn it the old fashioned way. We really are on the verge of starting to merge ourselves with machines, and completely control our own evolution.

I believe they won't be sexbots, but more like bio-engineered machines with organic composition, you know, synthetic skin and muscle tissue that mimics how ours work. Along with a form of homeostasis to match our body temperature

As in the body itself is organic but the internals, such as what ever method it uses to store and release energy, the AI housing, the artificial womb, and wet-nursing function, will be all machine (well maybe not the artificial womb).

Engineered lifeforms with bionic augmentations

I actually plan to go to college to learn Bionics
>>
>>55266579
Really I could go on and on about how the body can be constructed, how it might work, how it would need to work to satisfy the "needs" of the end user, ethical problems and social impact on society, even disposal and reproduction/recycling/remanufacturing.

"Sex robot" is a very limiting term. "Artificial companion" is much better in my opinion.

Artificial companion does housework, daily conversation, companionship and sex for you and can exist indefinitely if maintained (and even if not maintained it can be always repaired). Also it can guard you when you go outside.

Artificial companions will make it possible for everyone to get attention they need!

They'll cost about the same as a new car.

This is actually very reasonable because mechanically an android is simpler than, say, an automatic car gearbox. Also an android weights 40x less, so it's cheaper materials-wise (androids don't require any rare materials to produce them).

The only reason of huge prices for current robots is lack of true mass production/mass market.

Guess I'll start elaborating on What I was talking about on my first post

First when talking about sex bots meant for human "use", we need to seperate ourselves from the idea that they would only be used for sex. Because let's face it, trying to market highly sophisticated bio-androids as just sex robots is just bad. They would be multipurpose maid bio-androids capable of cooking, cleaning, speech, and nursing (with working "fun" parts).

There will be 2 types of maid bio-androids Multipurpose and Maternal. The mutlipurpose one would be commercially available, but not sold as a completed unit. The second Maternal one would obviously need to be able to gestate and would have to be capable of both producing it's own "egg" and accepting a donor egg (organic or engineered). The maternal bio-android will most likely have a few restrictions applied to ownership, being able have 100s of Maternal bio-androids all pregnant could cause an problem as you could guess.

Though to clarify about the first type not being sold as a complete unit, It would be most economically feasible for companies to sell single use kits to fabricate 1 Maid bio-android.
Because obviously a company wouldn't want their customers to become able to mass produce their own bio-androids, without someway of gaining profit of each 1. The kit itself would be a self-assembly type, as in it will have a core and simply grow around that core, into whatever body you have requested the company to program into the core. The kit might be a vat or it might simply be a sack-like egg, literally like hatching an egg.

Of course since this is so similar to a real life form there are many ethical hurdles that need to be addressed, especially concerning it's intelligence.

The second thing I wanted to explore is the ethics of owning human-like life-forms, but honestly I'm not even 30% sure if there has even been any elaborations on this subject

So I'll just have to focus on how we go from:

Hard, Cold, and Noisy
to
Soft, Warm, and Squishy

The short answer here is bio-engineering, to clarify bio-engineering to me means build an organic life-form, or at least organic parts. We need to be able to perfectly clone human skin and muscle structures and study how to send deliberate and complex sequences to the muscle to move them the same way humans use them naturally.

The biggest issue in this, I believe, Is would the bio-android's AI be capable of machine learning, or would it be modeled into an expert system?
Will we give the bio-android the ability to learn on its own, or do we pre-program human behavior and actions?

This is the biggest issue to me and would result in the start of an ethics issue.

And kinda reminds me of pic related

(Also if anyone has a better name for bio-android please tell me, as bio-android doesn't seem to roll off the tongue)

forgot to add

One of the ethics issues would be how to define what classifies as a human.

In the future when tech gets more advanced will will start to have bionic implants and augmentations be the norm and simply saying: "a human is a being capable of independent thought" won't cut it anymore especially when tech is advanced enough to grow life-forms and integrate highly advanced AIs into them. What separates an engineered human from a born bio-android?

Do we go full Megaman X universe and give the reploids rights as well?

Do we purposely put limitations on how advance an AI can be in order to avoid this dilemma?

Do we bow down to our new loli catgirl bio-android overlords?

Why not just get a real doll?

I hope we won't fall into ethics slump here, it may hinder the progress forever. Looks like westerners focus on ethics issues too much because they already live a comfortable lifestyle and have nothing to lose by slowing progress down. It is unfair to ~5 billions of people living in underdeveloped world, people that could benefit a lot (A HUGE LOT) from faster pace of progress.

I think machine learning systems do not hold any moral weight (unless you have fallen for http://petrl.org/ meme), and we should use them to make our life better.

Expert systems are outdated, it's machine learning with some handcrafted behaviors/biases nowadays.

Your biotechnological idea is very interesting, I have thought about it myself. It could have ethical problems only if you go with a natural brain instead of a computer with machine learning software. But with current state of art in synthetic biology it may be a very long before humans will be able to engineer multicellular organisms. It's much more practical to focus on robotics systems that are already here.

>>
They already exist if you want to spend incredible amounts of money on them. They aren't intelligent though and only do what you program them to do (obviously).

Within around 50 years I think we'll have autonomous robots that can do simple tasks (including pleasuring you), but they definitely won't be intelligent. We're probably a century or more away from truly intelligent machines, possibly even longer if we don't get off our asses and start making better CPU architectures with better materials than silicon.

That's such a vague comment. Even though I sit on my ass doing nothing all day, I still contribute to society by helping people online, posting accurate reviews of shit I buy, purchasing things, paying my taxes, etc. What kind of career would I need to have to be considered "contributing to society"? No matter what kind of job I get, I'll only feel like I'm perpetuating a system I don't believe in.

The real problem is the global economic system, but there's literally jack shit I can actually do about that, so here I sit, waiting for change that will never come, killing time indulging in my hobbies.

Well, you should probably try to make some career choices that will land you a job you simply love (and don't consider a chore) I guess.

For me, my salary doesn't really matter as long as I can make a living. I manage to pay my student debt and mortgage with my current salary, so even if it is a fraction of what I used to make in addition to working a LOT more than I used to do, I'm still much happier and I love getting up in the morning and go to work.

I'm not lonely. I have you faggots to keep me company after all. After browsing /h/ since my early teens, real women just don't do it for me anymore anyway (thankfully, since it saves me a lot of money and headache).

>>55268731
Not everyone can be a doctor or a scientist, anon. If you asked me what I'd really like to do, it would be cool to contribute to development of outer space. Too bad NO ONE GIVES A FUCK and they aren't actually trying to build any infrastructure up there. I'd totally volunteer to be a grunt snapping together space colony parts. I'd also volunteer to live in one of those concept super high tech cities but no one's building those either. What are the choices of career these days? Learn a trade, become a code monkey, become a middle management business shithead, learn economics and try to game the system (which is a gamble), or get into debt slavery by going to college and trying to get an actual career (without any guarantee you'll actually be to get a job in that field).

>>55268740
Someone gets it. I'm probably going to be forced to get a job in the next several months since my saved up money is going to run out (yes, I actually earned it myself by working!), but I sure as hell don't want to work a 40 hour week; I'll probably sign up somewhere for a 20 hour week.

>Not everyone can be a doctor or a scientist
I almost failed high school calculus. I'm currently doing a PhD in computer engineering.

>If you asked me what I'd really like to do, it would be cool to contribute to development of outer space. Too bad NO ONE GIVES A FUCK and they aren't actually trying to build any infrastructure up there.
That still doesn't rule out other stuff, there will always be a need for better satellites etc.

Why is it always about making the most money? I'm >>55268867, as long as I manage to pay my bills and provide my own food, I don't give a fuck that I'm broke most of the time.
>>
>>55262345
Probably im 20 years or so.
Atleast for loners. NOT instead of real women.
>>
>>55268912
Hey I don't really give a fuck about making the most money either. I'd be perfectly happy in a single bedroom house as long as I could afford food, water, electricity, internet, and entertainment. I only need to upgrade my PC and game consoles every 5 years or so and other gadget purchases are few and far between.

Universal income can't come fast enough.
>>
>>55269209
I don't even own a TV and the only computer in my house is the Macbook Pro the university gave me.

I used to have a gaming station and a TV + some consoles, but honestly, after throwing that stuff out and focusing on getting somewhere with my life/career, I'm a lot happier. I don't spend a lot of time at home, but when I do I usually play drums or guitar or tinker with electronics and Arduino stuff for fun.

I know it's a huge meme on this board and I honestly enjoy playing vidya every now and then, but since I stopped doing that at home for hours upon hours and put that focus into improving my life instead, I became a lot happier.

Maybe it would be possible to "simulate" enough consciousness to make a sexdoll feel real without having to solve all the insanely hard problems of AI. What I mean by this: You don't need to discuss about Shakespeare while fucking nor does the robot have to fetch and open a jar to hand you a pickle. The basic functionality that's absolutely necessary might be much easier to accomplish soon than intricate artificial intelligence and consciousness.

I'm guessing they'll arrive around 2035.

There's too much money to be made in converting every industry on the planet to robots and AI, so the tech will get there.

Pic is basic cooking robot arms coming out next year.

Besides the flip phone, the manual for the doll on the floor says "intol CORE" which is referring for the Intel Core Duo/Core 2 Duo from that era.

You probably won't ever 'understand' him because you think his way of life is repulsive, thus you'll never allow yourself to hypothetically shift into his subjective perspective.

that's a tall order.
We don't know how the mind [consiousness] works. We don't even have a a solid baseline theoretical approach yet to build upon. It's a field that sits entirely on the metaphysical conjectures.

besides, e.g., there's someone who has a firm comprehension on some very abstract theorem but he got there by discovering his own iconographic metaphor while there's another one who has the same grasp on said subject but got there through hard, cold, classical logic. They'll only understand each other in regards of the upper levels of that theorem but will bicker with each other till their deaths over the basics.

Anyway, this argument only supports the fact that an universal to the human mind will be extremely difficult, but the thing is, we don't even have a single clue to what the baseline is so we're still a long way away from the very start.
>>
>>55274167
Oh that's a given. I don't see this shit every being available in my lifetime, but predicting general technology advancements is pretty much impossible.
>>
>>55274167
>>55274199
>we don't even have a single clue to what the baseline is

that was kinda stupid. of course we have clues, ranging from religious texts to the latest in neuroscience (philosophy and even physics, actually). But nothing that could consolidate a firm foundational theorem yet.

So, curious, for a second let's completely forget the moral bullshit, what the hell is anyone here actually doing?
A good start might be nagging danny choo about the smart doll, I mean it'd be fucking worderful to get a parts list of all the stuff in https://nerddorf.tumblr.com/post/46866968617/reblog-how-to-mass-produce-your-own-products (Also pic related), but despite him saying "Compleated prototype" all pics posted so far are obviously just 3d renders.
Anyway, if those parts do exist it'd be great to work out what they are, unless a weeb could scour Akihabara and see what's actually there.

So, what are you guys doing?

Okay, now what I'm doing.
(Except being fed up at the drastic lack of robot parts. Seriously, someone start a kickstarter to buy a FT from robotgarage and tear the thing to bits)

So, we have a lack of parts and a lack of interest, and the best we can really do is spend a couple hundred on a femisapien and replace her guts with an arduino. Perfect.

What I'm working on, being a teacher, is trying to get students interested in robotics again, and, more importantly, doing it in a way that's easily affordable (without compromising and saying a fucking bristlebot's good enough).
I saw a student trying to build a four legged robot with just four servos, one attached to each leg.
Without knees I thought it'd be hard for it to walk, but I decided to build one myself and test how far you can actually push a kneeless design like this.
Anyway, turns out pretty far. I realized it's an excellent task for students as not only does it walk them through some basic construction and electronics, it forces them to think creatively and come up with ideas and solutions themselves.

Another thing this lead to was me googling "Four servo walking robot", which actually gave me nothing like what I was making (Probably because of how fucking dumb it is) and lots of bipeds. This got me thinking about another challenge, working with the least serovs possible.
Digital servos with feedback can cost between $50-200, so a low servo count can seriously bring a bots price down. So as a little thought experiment, what's the smallest number of servos you can use for any given part of a robot without compromising each components independant operation? (See: first robosapien closing its hand when its lower arm moved forwards. None of that shit).
Anyways, it's school holidays now, so that means tons of time for me to play around with this shit before next semester, so I should be able to post a bit here: https://hackaday.io/project/12019-search-for-a-four-servo-walking-robot

Fishing line with nichrome wire all twisted together or something? Too slow.
What have we got that I can build with today?
I see lots of designs using tendons, throw a servo or linear actuator wherever they can fit and just route a wire tendon to wherever the movement is needed.

This isn't a matter of what "We need", it's a matter of what we want and what we have.
We need waifubots. We don't have them. We'll make them.
Do we "Need" bionic muscles?
No. But they'd help so we'll make/buy them.
