Is it worth using the Raspberry Pi as a seeding box?

MicroSD cards have limited sizes and doesn't flash memory aswell? Unless I can hook up a hard disk to the Pi I see no point

I'm stupid for not checking my post.

flash memory wears out during write, not during read

Thinking about going with an external disk now just to be safe.

you could use a USB for the Pi OS, but can't use a platter drive. The Pi's USB bus doesn't offer enough voltage to spin the drive. You'd need, at a minimum, a powered external USB hub.

there are no issues with having a hard disk connected to a raspberry pi, using the usb cable
you do not need a usb hub

Guess what, hard disks have limited sizes too

I've tried this before. You will spend money and fail.

Or you could get any other ARM based devie with a SATA controller, such as a Pogoplug, root it and connect a real HDD

I'm using mine as a combo seedbox / plex server right now. All my anime downloads are automated and it just werks
Storage on a 3TB powered external HD, but all my system files / packages are on the SD card, and I'm only using like 6/16 GB there.

My friend is running his external HD with a powered hub, but before he figured out that he needed one he was getting a lot of random reboots on spinning up the drive.
Since my drive is external powered, I don't need a hub like >>55242572 claims, but yeah, don't try to power your drive off the pi.
