So, I have a buddy who got a 3D printer and I'm wondering if (and or how) it's possible to take 3D models from Steam Games (like Borderlands 2) and put them into a 3D printer to print models of them?

I am moderately proficient with 3DS max if that helps.

technically possible? sure, the how depends on the game and how it stores the models, as well as the availability of software that can handle the format the models are in

Use a 3D ripper to dump the models while playing. Basically dumps all geometry loaded in the video card at the time.
