All the bitching I see about VLC falls into these categories

1) Something about subtitles for muh chinese cartoons

2) Something about inferior rendering options that only improve the sharpness of illustrations, like muh chinese cartoons

3) The gray washed contrast because the range is set wrong in the nvidia control panel

4) Complaining about garbage because VLC doesn't wait for a complete keyframe before seeking.

None of this shit matters if you aren't autistic about chinese cartoons. I've always used VLC because it has the highest compatibility I know of. I just want a player that plays anything. Especially broken or incomplete files. It's great for previewing torrented video in pieces.

Sure you can use a swiss army knife to do heaps of things, but it doesnt do specific tasks exceptionally well it does them adequately.

A more highly tuned to purpose tool would be better for most jobs.
