ASUS mobos are good. Gaming is just in the name to attract retarded buyers.

Just make sure you get the highest chipset for your CPU and that's it.

This really is only an issue if you go for their cheaper boards.

MSI was actually praised very highly for their higher end Z170 and X99 boards, they use some very nice chokes, VRMs, and other surface mount components. Far higher quality than similar priced Asus and gigabyte boards even.

Though I do agree MSI has had dubious history, lately at least at the higher end, they seem to be getting their shit together. The stuff they are doing for their on board Audio on their higher end boards is pretty sweet too, nice dedicated OP amps and shit.
