What percent of all open source code is comments/commented? Couldn't we save a tremendous amount of hard drive space by removing all the comments from code?
Comments are discarded when compiled to binary. If someone has the source then chances are they're a dev and so the comments are useful to them.

When indenting code, some people use 4 spaces instead of a tab. 4 spaces is four characters whereas a tab is one character. Changing every usage of 4 spaces to 1 tab would save a lot of space.

Right. I'm not agreeing nor disagreeing with using tabs, just explaining why some think it is such a big deal. All things considered, source code files take up virtually no space when compared to the other shit needed to run a program, regardless of tabs vs. spaces, as they're simply text files.
