This is going to be the greatest video card of all time.

For just $200 you will have a card more powerful than $600 alternatives of the present.

With this plus Zen following shortly, we are truly about to enter a golden age of consumer electronics.

According to "leaks" it will be somewhere between the 980 and 1070.

That would be absolutely amazing for a $200, 150W card, although I kinda doubt it will be that good.

I expect it to be slightly less powerful than a 980. Probably about as strong as the 390x, but even that is crazy if you consider the 390x draws double the power.

Anyway you look at it it will be the king of price/performance by a mile and the go to midrange card.

Have you even read up on Zen?

All signs point to Zen being an 8 core with similar single core performance as the i7.

How is a $200, sub 150W card being on par with a $450 300W card a bad thing?

We haven't had this sort of price performance since the 8800GT.

>>
>$200 you will have a card more powerful than $600 alternatives of the present

So delusional. For $200 (plus $30 or so for 8GB and probably another $30-50 for aftermarket cooler/PCB) you're going to get around 980 level of performance. A great bargain, which is what this card has been marketed as since day one, but no flagship killer.

To put it in perspective, for $250-275 you're getting performance equivalent to a $550 (980) card, or around 50% cost:perf increase in two years. Fantastic.

With the 1070 you're getting performance equivalent to a $650 (980ti) card for $380, or around a 42% cost:performance increase in a year. Fantastic.

The 980ti is roughly 30% faster than a 980. You're not going to get 30% more performance out of an OC.

I ran some numbers and figured that IF the card does tylically use 110w in games it would be using roughly 170w at 1.6Ghz, and that the overvoltage necessary to reach some crazy number like 1750Mhz puts it at >225w

In the same vein, the overvolt required for a 1080 to sustain 2350Mhz puts it at >350w, closer to 375 actually.
>>
>>55186416
1080 has hardware locked voltage. none of the chips will end up hitting more than 2.1 without modifying the card itself.
>>
>>55186416
Custom boards have been spotted with the standard 6 pin and an extra 8 pin connector, so that would make sense. I'm honestly doubtful that the Korean streamer in that video was actually using an RX 480. He claimed he had the card at 1300mHz while his firestrike was showing 1607mHz. Which is GTX 1080. I mean shit, this guy showed his face on stream, essentially blacklisting him from anything in the future requiring an NDA but didn't show the card in his rig.
>>
>>55186506
So did the Titan X, but someone made a custom bios which allowed you to OC it to 1500mHz. It stands to reason that someone will eventually release a custom bios for the 1080 as well.
>>

>>
>>55186591
This is assuming that all 1080 boards will use generally the same regulator chip (they wont, Titan Xs are all reference boards which use the same hardware), someone will be able or willing to modify the BIOS for every different card (they wont), and finally that every voltage regulator can be forced by software/firmware to provide more than the controller's set limit (likewise, that the controller's defined limit is lower than its hardware limit).

There will be cards that can provide ridiculous voltage to the GPU, someone somewhere will make it possible, and there will be extreme OC enthusiasts physically hacking in secondary delivery boards to provide >400w, and on top of all of that none of it means anything to the typical buyer because most people won't be able to truly unlock the voltage.
>>
>>55186733
They've been stepping up the driver game a lot lately, especially with "beta" and non-WHQL drivers.

>>55186748
Reference 1080s can only hit 1.080v, non-reference STRIX cards go up to 1.25v.

Neither one can go over 2.1Ghz. Power targets get hit long before temperature or other problems. It seems like 2.1Ghz is the absolute top end any 1080 will hit without being a golden chip.
>>
>>55186748
Average buyer doesn't OC beyond what MSI Afterburner or EVGA Precision can offer anyway. Keep in mind, the people who are going to consider unlocking voltage will exclusively buy models with dual bios incase they accidently brick it.

I only know of two which actually have the feature so far, EVGA FTW and Classified. Not sure if any of the others

Aaaaaah, future tense - the province of AMD. But when that glorious future comes and becomes present, AMD will still be the same meme company it has been for the last 10 years. I literally cannot fathom this team red fanboyism - choosing inferiority and praising it relentlessly as the best thing ever reminds me of those redneck parents with microcephalic children who dress the latter in ridiculous clothes and are trying so hard to believe that they're anything but vegetables.
>>
>>55182571
I have hatred for muslims which AMD loves

But I still buy this product because I think it's cheap enough and if I didn't buy shit because of people with ideologies then I would have to kill myself for all the shit I have bought. It's a stupid concept that for something as cheap as this they would directly benefit something like a few durkas with a quran on one hand and an AR-15 on the other two

I can't wait till you cucks complain about why 480s are $350 once they come out and the hoarding starts.
>>
>>55187240
Think I might have spoken to you about this previously.

They haven't had any more stock since release though. They've just been going through pre-orders and had a 15 minute sale on some Gigabyte G1's around the 5th. On release I was waiting for a 1070, but I changed my mind to jump on the 1080 once more real world benchmarks were released for 1440p performance around the 2nd or 3rd. I had a preorder with Amazon for the G1 Gaming for £560 and didn't want to pay more for the same thing. Granted that was a mistake on my part.

But yeah, here I am sat with a FE, and 29 days to return it if stock levels normalise and I can get my hands on something like a MSI Gaming Z or a Strix OC.
>>
>>55187327
I'm not complaining. I wouldn't have paid the money if I didn't think it was worth it. Before the supply chain was found to be this limited, the prices were actually lower at all retailers anyway. They've steadily gone up since.

AMD has confirmed multiple times that this isn't a paper launch so I doubt it'll happen. That said, there's rumblings from cryptocoin miners that they'll be buying this en masse for mining rigs, so it might be smart to get in early or have to deal with shortages later.

>>55188785
I personally think that particular leak was a troll though. Firstly, he NEVER showed the card and although he used a fake name, he showed his face on stream. 1607 mHz is the stock core speed for a GTX 1080, and the main game he showcased was Overwatch, a game which gives locks to your monitors refresh rate and gives you + 10 fps at most. The performance was also INSANE. He had the game maxed out at 1440p and render scale was 122%. If we compare to this youtube video of a GTX 1080 doing the same thing, we actually see pretty identical results all the way down to temperatures.

In reality they made around 100K and have a high bin count.
>AMD MSRP will be just as high at launch!
In the mean time AMD have been making plenty of cards since the announcement and stockpiling them. Prices have already been confirmed on various sites as to the actual retail prices (249 Euros for the 8Gb model which is about what we expected). Nice paperlaunch Jewvidia.
>But it uses 150w!
No it uses around 100-110w with a max of 150w (75w PCie and 75w connector).

That's not what amdrones believe. Look at the comment section in that digital foundry mirrors edge video. It's full of amd 3xx owners calling everyone peasants for owning cards with 4gb vram or less. You even get people on here who say 8gb is the absolute minimum.

It's funny because if you think about it, it's actually worse for amd fanboys because all the people who bought the fury x for $650 are now having to downgrade their gpu to play that game at maximum settings since amd have no fury x upgrade yet whereas anyone who has a 970 can upgrade to the 1070.

Both of these situations can be avoided if you simply, you know, turn down the the fucking settings. Amdrones can't seem to comprehend settings sliders though. Based on what I've been seeing here and in that mirrors edge video, turning down settings is almost a crime for amdrones.
