Well the "Classified" cards themselves just overclock better then reference. I personally prefer the reference models since they vent all the heat out of the case. But I am borrowing this card from a friend since he upgraded to a 1080 and I want to wait for the 1080Ti.

Well, I bought like 3 120gig ssds because they were so dirt cheap.

So if what you're working with doesn't need much space, you're good.

SSDs are not meant for storage anyway.

Maybe to someone, but I've handled enough 15" 4k panels, 13" fullHD panels and 27" 4k "gaming displays" at work to be comfy with what I bought. The 4k version of this Predator had way more problems, was more expensive and unavailable at the time.

I've been looking at a 23.6" 120hz Acer TN panel for the past 5 years, from that this was a huge leap in quality and speed :)

I would like to use my Nano, which i got for 250€, but i won't because
1) the fan is loud as hell,
2) the peformance with amdgpu kernel driver+xorg amdgpu driver+latest mesa is horrible at best (but dx8/9/10/10.1/11 performance on windy is great) and because of the
3) horrible whining caused by the inductors (of which model is probably the exact same as on GTX980, which squaels too like a pig).

So, good luck to you OP.
>>
So, i see there is some LCD vs. CRT debate on this thread yet again.
Any shitty old CRT - even at 60Hz refresh rate - have 100 times better motion quality than the latest LCD at 20000Hz refresh rate, using sample and hold (no, black frame insertion doesnt make a huge difference, at least not the current implentations).
Any shitty old CRT might not have better black levels than the VA-panel offering best black levels the tech has to offer, but any decent PC CRT monitor definitely does (for example Eizo T960 or pretty much any monitor with early new millenia Sony AG tube).

Should have put together one X79+SB-E set instead of two P67/Z68+SB 2500k/2600K sets or maybe i should have not, because there isnt any major performance difference, except with the 6 or 8 Core Sandy-E's.
>>
>>55176142
>Enjoy your migraines.
That is funny, because the first time i have received massive headache from a computer (thus including non-IBM PC systems) monitor, was from LED edgelit LCD using PWM at low frequency to dim the back..er edgelight.

Most of my CRT displays have been using the extremely slow sync-to-black method, that is used on almost all Sony CRT PVM and BWM monitors, which incidentally also gives the best motion quality as well.
>>
>>55176237

Weird, must be something wrong with your head.

I moved from a triple CRT setup (one of those 21" good ones was my main) to a TN+film Eizo back in the day and it was the shit, even though stupid slow.

Going to 120hz changed my game forever, even though it was first gen shit tier.

You'll encounter coil whine with plenty of GPUs the Nano's is typically pretty awful. Not sure if it's just my low standards bu perhaps I only hear it when its past 75%. I had encountered problems with a full size gpu heating up my ssds which is why I went with it. Allowed me enough room to jam some case fans in there and keep my temps for both the gpu and ssds nice and cozy. Not gonna say its perfect but she definitely gets the job done. Had to leave my home in a hurry once and she was portable and kept me occupied away from home.

>You'll encounter coil whine with plenty of GPUs the Nano's is typically pretty awful.
When the 'coil whine' is coming from some component on the gpu pcb, its the inductors. On GTX980, its the r22 inductor and i have not checked, but i bet its the exact same inductor on offending AMD cards as well.
The real coil whine comes from the psu, of which every Seasonic psu i have ever owned, have emitted, at least with certain system configurations.

From other more modern cards i have, Asus HD4850 and HD6850 or Sapphire Nitro R9 380 and 390, none whine.
All three Geforce 4 cards and FX5900 i have, whine like there is no tomorrow and they have from the day one. Two 3dfx cards, no whine. Three Maxtors, no whine. Ati 9600, X1600, no whine. So, taking this subjective account in to mind, i was not surprised to find second gen Maxwell gpu's to whine (but again, my 750 and 750ti do not whine).

>>
>>55176704
Interesting, you have waaay more knowledge than I. I had the sapphire r9 390 jammed in there before the nano and perhaps through the size of the case made the 3 fans louder to me than the 1 nanos. I didn't mind it though, the ssd temps were what made me change my set up.
>>
>>55176990
I didnt say the cooling solution of Sapphire's Nitro R9 390 is silent, but at least in my Antec P280, Fractal R2 and Nanoxia DS3 (with the top hdd cage removed) with two NF-P12's@1100RPM doing intake at bottom front and one NF-P12@1100RPM blowing out at back, the R9 390 isnt as loud as the Nano.
But yeah, with that cramped space (well, i dont have that exact case, so talking out of my ass here), its pretty much impossible to arrange good airflow for the gpu.

Ya for PhysX and for one of my monitors cause I have 2 analog and each card only supports one.

>>55173320
in most games with PhysX it boost the frames a little by taking the load off the main card. In some games (so far only Batman Arkham Origins) It butchers the frames because the 650 can't handle the PhysX in that game at all, not sure if its poor optimization or just to many effects and took weak a card. Is the air conditioner comment because of the shape of the case? I haven't been on /g/ for about 2 years so I am out of the loop lol.

>>55175275
I just prefer the RoG boards, didn't wanna shell out for the extreme though since I'll probably only do single card with this build since it sounds like a dual 1080 setup would actually benefit from having the extra PCIe lanes that the X99 boards have. I'll if I ever fell like going crazy with this build I'll probably just swap in a Rampage V and a 6960X and run Dual 1080Tis

>>55177209
It's just the angle of the picture looking at the card level it lines up straight across the bored. I'm pretty ocd about card sag.

Well I'm laid off work right now, although I do have a few grand saved I'm trying not to spend it just in case. Planning on getting an ROG swift (the IPS 1440p) first then getting a new card. I was also planning on putting a little money into my car before buying a card, but if I can actually get the job I want and soon then I'll most likely just buy a 1080 anyways and sell once the Ti is out.

Speaking of monitors I am currently using a 23 inch Asus Pro Art. Thinking about buying an Asus VP279Q-P since it's $80 off and using that as my main until I buy an ROG swift. Not sure how i feel about 27inch 1080p though.

so im this guy^

I have bought everything but the PSU now, i need psu suggestions

im running a pentium g-something (forgot # already) which runs at like 60w max, the gpu is a gt430 which maxes out at 85w, and ill only be having one HDD for now and maybe an SSD later

the motherboard requires a 24/20+4 main power connection alongside a 4 pin CPU power connection

any suggestions for 400-500w? doesnt have to be fancy, just not extremely low quality, i dont mind buying used if its a good price and a repuatable brand like evga

my first idea was to go with a 500 bronze but then the 430 looked decent, but they all seem kind of expensive new alongside shipping

so after running heaven, valley, firestrike, and a few games for the last few hours monitoring with gpu-z, it appears my strix 1080 boosts to 2ghz.

from what i can tell from reading around 2-2.1ghz appears to be the limit for 1080's. really no need to overclock unless i want to hit that extra 100mhz.

i was waiting for the evga 1080 ftw myself since it would match better with my motherboard, but last week when i saw the strix back in stock on newegg, with no eta when the ftw's where coming back in stock anywhere, i decided to snag the strix instead.

i'm happy i did. its a fabulous card so far.

Planning on attempting upping the voltage at all? I would assume it has more voltage headroom since it has the extra 6 pin, or is that more for stability?
>>
alright, welp i bought every last piece i needed

might do the paintjob still, might just up some padding to cover the holes in the case, might just leave it silver to be honest, not caring that much, the yellow/black theme was scrapped when i found that cheap as ship hyperx blue, maybe ill paint the heat spreaders, or re anodize them

and yes, i am buying a stock cooler, eat my dick, what fan size do they have on them? google isnt helping much
>>
>>55181217
the extra 6 pin is more for stability. all 1080's so far are voltage locked to 1.25v's, and no one has been able to achieve higher than 2.1ghz so far with max 1.25v's. even the cards with two 8 pins like the ftw's and gigabyte xtremes haven't been able to go over.

so far at least. a lot think later cards like the kingpin or the matrix might allow for higher clocks.
>>
>>55181252

though why don't you just buy a chromebook?
>>
>>55181302
i already have a chromebook
and i think the fan on there might be 90mm, but i just noticed its the same actual heatsink as my pentium 4 had, which had an 80mm fan mounted on top

if all else fails, ill just glue a fan on there, its just he cpu fan, doesnt have to be perfectly snug
>>
>>55179645

I bought one with a decent i5 a while back and it failed on me. Wasn't functioning on any level whatsoever so I don't know if it's the board or CPU that went. May have been something I did, may have been incompatable parts or a faulty board, I don't know.
I recently bought the z170 pro gaming. It's pretty much the exact same board with some of the non essential flashy parts removed and slightly lower cost and I have to say it's a very good board.

solved the issue with the coolant, it was just a small leak, ill do a proper flushing somtime soon to get the solids out of the system

the fuel line leak isnt too bad, it doesnt drip, just kind of seep and evaporate, its taped up, hose clamped and zip tied around a barb for now

the tires are an issue though, i had to borrow a friends spare to go along with mine, and because they sat for so long the rims have bent
and theyre not hubcaps on rims, theyre milled steel rims, manufacturer rims cost like 150$ a piece and i dont make much

im thinking im going to replace all 4 rims + tires, but go with basic steel "winter rims"
i need functionality over form

Throw half a container of Seafoam in the crank case and drive it nice and hard for a bit before doing the oil flush.

That isn't bad, but it speeds up the drying and oxidation process. Probably easy to replace yourself with some jack stands and some based tools.

Who the fuck slashes someones goddamn tires. That's fucked up. Who in the hell and actual fuck. Shit I am mad.

I love it, aside from one issue. One, huge issue.
No tap.
Anon, please include a tap when you next do maintenance and have to drain the loop. I promise you, it'll make things much, much easier.
I couldn't imagine how much of a pain in the ass my loop would've been had it not been for my tap.
(My loop is >>55188903)

Definitely dig the clear fluid though.
>>
>>55189857
Actually, upon closer inspection, I think you have the same issue as I do. You also need two 45* angles, and either a third 45 or a single 90.
The 45/90 would be the IN fitting for the reservoir, since the tubing is already near enough doing a 90 right there anyway. The other two 45's would be the OUT for the reservoir and the socket it leads to on the radiator.
Not essential, but it'd definitely make the tubing look and feel a little bit safer & better.

I too need to get a 45 for my front radiator IN, possibly a 45 for the top radiator IN (so the tubing will sit beside the fans, not in front), and a 45 for my GPU to relieve the tension on the GPU OUT port. So its not just me being picky against you and you only.

:p

bought one of the coolers before 2011 was a thing so only got the screws for one, works just fine.

You definitely need to go custom loop m8, it'd look sick in your case.

Good choice on mobo, its a solid option that doesn't cost an arm and a leg but offers reasonable options and has, from my experience, good build quality.
I've not had any complaints. My i7 4790k can hit 4.7Ghz stable and as any semi competent OC'er knows, the motherboard can be half of the puzzle itself.

UEFI is easy too use too.

Why do people do this. And 4 ssd? And a nearly 700 dollar mobo?

What the fuck even I could do a more powerful x99 build for 2500. The fuck are you even doing
>>
>>55195274
I work in the tech industry and I have connections and shit. I didn't actually pay $7,000.
>>
>>55195299
OK that is the only acceptable answer.

Because holy shit unless you are building purely enthusiast or for a competition or a builder who does client builds like singularity computing anything over 3200 ish dollars is retarded and anything over 2500 is almost as retarded.

Also to be fair that monitor is expensive as fuck so I'll take the 1200 out of the equation but jeez.
>>
>>55171975
Why didn't you just cut your tubing shorter?

r8/h8. Can't really see it because it's buried underneath my huge cooler and GPU. But I upgraded to a 6700k/Z170 board. Asus Z170 ROG Ranger board. 2x8GB kit of ddr4-3200mhz (which will only do 2666mhz but I digress).

I'd replace the 3 included fans as well, but they're set to only even turn on at 65c CPU temp, so they do nothing 99% of the time.
