some cards take significantly more power than others, my gt430 maxes out at ~85 watts under full load, while a 980ti uses 65 watts on idle and 250 on full load
so while a 300w psu is perfectly fine for my light gaming build, it would be decimated if i tossed a 980ti in there one day
