If some part of my motherboard (or the solder joints on the back) was making contact with my case, would my PC be able to function normally? Would it short? What would happen if it shorted, it just wouldn't boot?
>>55142228
depending on the point. If it is a ground there is no problem. If its some bus bus will not work probably it would just not boot. If it a power point it will probably fry something in the board.

It would be the far right edge
Pic related, that's what it looks like
I can't tell if anything is touching or not... It's working fine
>>55142228
Just get some fucking standoffs and wait to assemble it you faggot, your gaymes are not going anywhere, and if you can't afford the 5 bux they will cost you need to re-evaluate your life.
>>55142304
I'm using standoffs, the problem is this recess >55142292
>>55142292
Put some foam in between the gaps. Don't let them touch. Burned 2 boards before realizing a single pin touched my case... Sigh
Slow_mode
on-off
What did they mean by this?
>>55142342
It's for extreme OCing, apparently for LN2 shit you want the board to boot without your OC and then apply the OC while it's already running. Something like that.
>>55142336
Alright. I was thinking of using electrical tape to tape the raised part of the case all the way.
You should put some isolating material inbetween. You don't know what the pin is for, so don't risk it.
>>55142367
Would this be a safety hazard or just dead hardware?
>>55142228
Jesus...how stupid are you?

>>55142376
Just dead hardware. The voltages in use within a computer (maximum 12 volts) are not high enough to penetrate the human skin. You need at least 50 volts to do that.
The machine is grounded anyway exactly because of these things, so it's unlikely to cause you any harm, but I still recommend that you take care of it to prevent dead hardware. You don't want shit going to ground when it shouldn't.

Sure, yeah.
Would scotch taping the section be a good solution? I don't have the tools to cut foam to fit that.
>>55142501
Electrical tape should work fine. I wouldn't use regular tape like that, since it's not designed to be insulating (although it probably would with 12V, I still discourage it)
>>55142501
by that I mean this of course
>>55142532
>>55142529
>>55142501
Yep, should be fine.
>>55142529
Yeah I meant electrical tape. Thanks, I'll do that.
>>55142336
>>55142532
>>55142357
Electrical tape can work. Just put plenty layers as it might poke through lad
>>55142568
I did two. I took a close look at that side of the mobo and only saw two pins that may have possibly been touching but probably not. Either way system is running fine but then it also did before. Feel safer now though.
