I'm a security guard.
I've been using cheap dollar store flashlights for awhile, and they're fine in dark areas but barely noticeable in more lit areas.
Is anyone here a flashlight enthusiast? I need a nice reliable one, and maglight's seem like the go-to, but $50 is quite a lot to spend on something that I need to work for a few years with 4-5 hours of daily use.

You're a shitty security guard if you're using dollar store flashlights. Pick one based on three factors in this order lumens, battery life, skull cracking potential, then choose within your desired price range.

Build your own. Go look at solarforce for bodies. Get a solarforce l2, an 18650 battery, and a p60 drop-in and you'll be looking at 500-1000 lumens with a strike bezel for around 50 dollars.

Pic related is pushing 200 dollars in custom parts and outputs 1400+ lumens in a tight beam for over a mile.

Any recommendations on p60 drop-ins that don't completely blow the bank?

MagLite

Yeah you build your own it would cost like 15-20 max and you can get way higher turbo modes.

All you need is a soldiering iron and 3 blobs of soldier. After you make your own you realize anyone selling p60 drop ins is ripping you off big time

Why would you need a flashlight in a lit area?

I have this. Apparently it's used by security in Germany(?) or something.

Maglites are pretty durable and the long ones double as clubs.
