I'm not very tech-savvy, and I could use some help /g/. Googling hasn't produced any solid answers except for jews wanting me to buy 20-30 dollar programs to clone my HDD.

I'm running Windows 8.1 on my laptops HDD that I bought a couple months ago, but it came with a SSD. The OS is on the HDD though, so my SSD is pretty useless except for some programs I have on it. I want to move my OS to my SSD, and I have no idea how.

I'm perfectly fine with doing a clean install of Windows 8.1 on my SSD, I can just reinstall everything, but people are telling me I need to disconnect my HDD, I need to download this or that program, etc. I could just use some incidence on what to do.

My laptop didn't come with a Windows 8.1 CD either. Do I need a registry key?

shrink your os partition by uninstalling programs/deleting files until it's as big as your ssd's partition, then clone your os partition on the ssd with dd, gparted or easeus todo backup. after that delete the os partition from the hdd.

next time use sqt

I thought all laptops come with a registry key or something?

Anyways thanks for the help and clarifying what I need to do. Cheers.

they usually come with a recovery partition for factory resets. you can try booting from that and see if it has an installer on there.
