I thought this shit was just a meme but holy shit, VP8 is fucking amazing.
Webm related is just 165KB. Literally 16X smaller than the PNG version yet looks similar.
Here is the script an anon posted somewhere:for %%f IN (*.png) do (
ffmpeg -loop 1 -i "%%~nf.png" -an -c:v libvpx -qmin 16 -qmax 16 -quality best -threads 4 -t 2 -r 1 "%%~nf.webm"
)

Here is the ~165KB JPG version. It clearly looks worse than the static webm.
Here is the original PNG file.
Scrambling for a smaller file size in something as tiny and insignificant as images is pathetic. Go ahead and concert all your shit if you want, but don't expect anyone else to follow you down that road.
Here is another example.
Webm related is just 165KB. ~12X smaller than the PNG version.
convert THIS to webm
make it smaller
have fun

I don't expect them to. This is just something interesting I found to do, that's all. What's the point of coming to /g/ if you're against posting technology? Are you from r3ddit?
>>55101813
PNG version
>>55101823
I guess I can't. Webm is limited to 2048x2048 res.
>>55101839
I'm not against technology, just against technology applications that have minimal if any practical use.
Webm is great, but this is a pretty shitty use for it.

JPG version.

Well of course. This is why WebP is a thing. Too bad nobody supports it.
>>55101899
>Too bad nobody supports it.
Yeah except ebay, facebook, and like 90% of all web browsers.
>>55101920
Ebay, Facebook and YouTube use it, but only 70% of users can actually render it. Mozilla and Microshit have no plans to add it.
But at least MS is adding WebM support.
>>55101944
God, why is firefox such dogshit? It's literally like the only browser to not support webp. Glad I switched to pale moon months ago.
did webM became a thing when 4chan began supporting it?
how can Hiro beneffit from investing in support for webP?
>>55102043
>did webM became a thing when 4chan began supporting it?
fugg yeah, everyone started posting them on/gif/ mostly though.
>how can Hiro beneffit from investing in support for webP?
Less strain on servers which would reduce server bills. Webp is 25-50% smaller than PNG (losless encoding) and 50% smaller than JPG.

lmao nice format
