openvpn
obfsproxy/shadowsocks (if vpn is blocked by your isp)
tor (relay/proxy, not exit node)
seafile/btsync (their encryption is crap, but its better than nothing)

I installed openvpn, IRC bouncer, rtorrent, subsonic, plex and owncloud on mine
Besides vpn the rest are to share stuff with family/friends
