I have HP Z400 workstation with xeon w3520 and with Amd radeon R7 360. I have budget of 450 euros. Do you think that this computers processors is worth ubgrading to i5 6400?

It's probably not worth the money

you don't even have the proper socket for it spurdo

why the fuck would you even bother anyway, CPU speed is one of the least significant factors for most home desktop work in 2016

It won't work, bruh.

Your PC has a motherboard with a socket LGA 1366 and will only accept CPUs that use that socket.

The i5-6400 is a socket FCLGA 1151. Just won't fit or work at all.

HP's documentation says the Xeon W3570 is the most powerful CPU you system will take, but you can put the Xeon X series of CPUs in there and they will work just fine.

You will want to look at the BIOS on your system and see if it is new enough to take the 5600 series CPUs. I think it has to be December 2010 or later for that. If not, you are stuck with the 5500 series, which are still good.

Best CPU for you to upgrade to is a X5680. There is also the X5690, but it is still way too expensive. The X5680 is cheaper than the i5-6400 you were looking at, but is actually much more powerful!

But before you go ahead and buy that get one of the cheap 5600 series CPUs to make sure you motherboard will support it.

If it works go ahead and get the X5680.

For that much money you can buy a whole new system with better CPUs in it. I recommend a Dell Precision T5600 with an e5-2670.

You can reuse the RAM, storage drives, and GPU from your z400 in the T5600.

Yeah, go for it, man.
