As for me, I don't clean my GPU on my card. I just clean whatever random dust I can find on my motherboard and its peripherals, and whatever gunk is on the heatsinks.

Couple of drops of isopropyl alcohol on the die, let it soak into the thermal material a bit, then use a paper towel to gently remove it from the die.
