And I have no idea what it is.
So does /g/ have any ideas? The top says WD.

The back.
>>55073139
NAS server
>>55073143
It's a nas.
>>55073139
Looks like a botnet in a box.
>>55073146
set it up. it's a good thing.
>>55073139
>we found a thing
Give it back nigga
Give it back, Jamal.
>>55073146
Interesting. Thanks.
It's a nas and you should give it back.
>>55073139
How do you "find" a nas server?
>>55073146
>>55073153
>no network
>it's a nas
fuck you people are dense. it's an external drive. firewire all over that shit.
>>55073177
>>55073179
lulz, I promise it's not stolen m8. My stepdad's boss left it at our place and my Ma and I were trying to figure out wtf it was. I figured you guy's would know.
>>55073166
What practical uses would I be able obtain from it?
>>55073192
Like I said, my stepdad's boss has a bunch of computer stuff he kinda just left here. Can't sell it so it's not for my profit or anything. My room is being cleaned out and that was in there. Henceforth it being "found".
>>55073196
If this is an external drive, it's the biggest one I've seen in some time.
>>55073230
>>55073196
it's a 'My Book' external drive, not a nas.
plug it in and save your shit to it.
>>55073239
where is the network for the networked attached storage part? there is none because it's not networked.
>>55073239
Western Digital's external drives a while back could be fuckhuge. Theres likely 3-4 individual hard drives inside.
>>55073248
Scratch that, its a 1TB enclosure so theres a pair of 500GB drives likely in raid-0 or JBOD.
>>55073246
Cool. Yeah I wasn't denying that it was an external drive. I still stand by the fact that since it is one, its the largest I've seen. So yeah. Thanks ya'll.
>>55073258
Holy shit. Neat.
>>55073316
Not really that interesting actually
>>55073316
It comes in 1.5T and 2T flavors as well according to the WD website, and since most computers have at least one firewire port and ample USB ports, getting it up and running is as simple as plugging it in and letting it run.
IMO though I'd personally rip it open, extract the drives and manually install them in my rig. External enclosures sacrifice performance for portability.
>>55073338
When it's a free 1tb external hard drive just "found" in your room, it kinda is. Especially when music production/dj'ing is a hobby of yours and you could use more storage without having to drop literally any money. It doesn't have to excite you personally. But I can be stoked about it all I want.
>>55073368
I'll keep that in mind. Either way this was a good find.
Fucking ancient wd external. I bet it needs external power as well.
