What is the best /g/ approved website or program to download youtube playlists? Looking to download an hour or so of playlists.
>>
>>55046839
youtube-dl
>>
>>55046856
This. Google first, retard.
>>

Dont you have to download that? Or do you do it on a web browser? How do I know which one to dl?

"choose which file you want to open this program with"

Like what?

I still use windows 7, looks like i cant use this?
>>
>>55047402
youtube-dl works just fine on w7, retard. just get a normie browser extension if you're so incompetent that you can't even read properly a help page.
>>
>>55047444
Im not incompetent im just not very good at these things. I appreciate your help with it though
>>
>>55047444
And oh I just saw that I need python

Youtube-dl gui for more comfiness
Or 3dyd downloader
>>
>>55048084
Does gui require python aswell? Im unsure how to work these sorts of things. I have python installed but when I try to open youtube-dl in it, nothing happens
>>
>>55046839
>download youtube playlists?
I use youtube-dl.

>download a playlist
youtube-dl \
-f 43 \
--playlist-start 1 \
--playlist-end 4 \
[youtube playlist link]

If you want the entire playlist then you can omit the '--playlist-start', '--playlist-end'. There is also a '--playlist-items' for specifying individual vids within the list. The '-f' option specifies the quality of the video.

>>55048036
>Once you get python, what exactly do you do? Ive never messed with this sort of thing before.
If you can't be arsed to read the help files on your own then no one will want to help you.

https://rg3.github.io/youtube-dl/index.html

You asked for a recommendation (without doing any research on your own). You got a recommendation and now you want people to hold your hand. No one wants to do that for someone who can't be bothered to do some reading.

If youtube-dl is too much of a hassle for you then spend some time Googling alternatives that you like. There are plenty of web browser extensions for Firefox and Chrome that will accomplish what you want. But you will need to do some work (see also read the documentation) to get it working.

Good luck.
>>
>>55048110
go to the link
>>55047264

click on the "Windows exe requires Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 Redistributable Package (x86) and does not require Python that is already embedded into the binary."
link

open cmd in the directory where you download the exe by opening the folder and typing cmd in the topbar

enter youtube-dl "youtube link here" in the cmd

Youtube-dl is objectively the best online fvideo downloader.

>Support for dozens of websites
>Can streams into mpv eliminating the need of using flash/html5
> Can control codec, fps, resolution, file extension, filesize, the bitrate acress all supported sites.
> Can merge Video Only and Audio only formats into one file.
>support for audio extract.

It's too good to not have.
>>
>>55048391
>Youtube-dl is objectively the best online fvideo downloader
For 1, it isnt "online"
For 2, it butchers the quality pretty hard.

OP, just use youtube to mp4 converter and youre set.
>>
>>55048184
Appreciate the instructions, it worked. Thanks a lot man
>>55048181
> The '-f' option specifies the quality of the video.
Is this a python specific code or would it work in cmd aswell?
>>
>>55048506
>it butchers the quality pretty hard.
Nothing happens to the quality unless you specify an encode during the download.
>>
>>55048538
>Is this a python specific code or would it work in cmd aswell?
https://github.com/rg3/youtube-dl/blob/master/README.md#format-selection

>By default youtube-dl tries to download the best available quality, i.e. if you want the best quality you don't need to pass any special options, youtube-dl will guess it for you by default.

>But sometimes you may want to download in a different format, for example when you are on a slow or intermittent connection. The key mechanism for achieving this is so called format selection based on which you can explicitly specify desired format, select formats based on some criterion or criteria, setup precedence and much more.
>>
>For 1, it isnt "online"
Regardless, but the point was that it youtube-dl can be use to download shtiton of video streaming sites.
https://rg3.github.io/youtube-dl/supportedsites.html
There is almost nothing that rivals it.
>>
Keepvid.com Good for quick downloads if you don't want to fuck around with code.
>>
>>55048664
that website only allows up to 720p videos, if you want higher quality you need to use youtube-dl+ffmpeg and merge video/audio
>>
>>55048574
is there a reason why yt-dl's idea of "best quality" for youtube is 720p?
>>
>>55048552
Fucking bullshit
>>
>>55048621
SO you can download media from a website that isnt youtube? Like someone released a brand new track and u can DL it on their website?
>>
>>55048959
>is there a reason why yt-dl's idea of "best quality" for youtube is 720p?
Because 720p is the best quality audio+video on youtube. Anything higher is separated into audio streams and video streams (this is something that youtube does). If you want to see all of the available formats then use the "--list-formats" option.

The documentation explains how to download the "best video" and "best audio" for cases where the website has them separate.
>>
>>55049355
What documentation? You literally open command prompt paste the video in and it will take the best possible quality. Nobody is going to use shitty python for something so ridiculously easy.
>>
>>55049434
What are you mad about Anon?

My answer had nothing to do with Python. What are you unclear about good sir?

>>55049472
The one on the left is youtube quality, and the one on the right is the youtube-dl quality. It isnt the fucking same how can you not see this? Downloading it via command prompt butchers the quality. You and OP and everyone recomending this shit are fucking retarded
>>
>>55049546
youtube-dl doesn't re-encode the video unless you specify it to do so.

Showing two images side by sides proves nothing.

If you are having issues with the software then use one of the other hundred alternatives.

Everyone is different. Not everyone likes the CLI (although I heard there is a GUI frontend for youtube-dl). Why even bother stitching two images together? Why mention Python?

Move on, use something that is better for you.

Good luck!
>>
>>55046839
Jdownloader 2
>>
>>55049615
Dude wtf are you talking about? Nobody is using python. I am proving to you that youtube-dl doesnt use the same quality video as youtube does. And theres noway to fucking "tell it to" like whatare you even saying?
>>
Easiest method for batch downloads is to get yourself a script which fetches all the URL's contained within a particular playlist link

Then select the URL's and parse them via 4k downloader

If you want decent quality make sure to select 480p when it asks you for the resolution settings
>>
>>55048574
How did this answer the -f question i asked about?
>>
>>55049692
It's right there in the command line. Your to retarded to use it.
>>
>>55049696
>>55049696
Or at least that's how i would do it for hour long playlists like the OP said

There may be even better alternatives, just search around for a bit

It literally does not say default quality anywhere on that image.
>>
>>55049858
I thought so to, I tried putting --max-quality FORMAT and other versions of that and it didnt seem to help. Nothing in the directions about it. It seems everyone here is saying because it is mp4 format, that is why the quality is not so great. SO I suppose I have to save it as something else? Not sure...
>>
>>55049885
>typing in FORMAT literally
Take a guess at how I know that you haven't read the documentation
>>
>>55049950
Which documentation? I read the "read me" sheet which was poorly put together with hardly any grammar
>>
>>55050065
how did you miss the big "documentation" link button in the homepage

look again. It's the red button that says documentation.

never post here again.
>>
>>55050155
Oh yeah my bad, but again, nothing on there says what to type in to get a better format. And you mean it cant be mp4 right because mp4 isnt good quality
>>
>>55050251
on the off chance you're not trolling here's an algorithm you can follow on how to read docs without wasting too much time

1. go to the contents page
2. go to a section in the contents page
3. read the first paragraph of the section and lookup any terms that are new to you
4. if the section doesn't seem relevant go read the next one
5. repeat previous steps until you find what you want
6. if you've read and understood the entire documentation and couldn't find what you want contact the dev

I know for a fact that quality selection is in the yt-dl docs so don't ask on /g/ about how it works
>>
>>55050437
This is what I found and it doesnt seem to be very useful

"By default youtube-dl tries to download the best available quality, i.e. if you want the best quality you don't need to pass any special options, youtube-dl will guess it for you by default."
>>
>>55050437
>>55050561
well?
>>
In theory could u get a video higher quality than on youtube itself?
>>
>>55048181
Hey i just tried this, what does the -43 mean? It gave me a webm and it looks a lot better than the mp4
>>
>>55050905
You can also use a file extension (currently 3gp, aac, flv, m4a, mp3, mp4, ogg, wav, webm are supported) to download best quality format of particular file extension served as a single file, e.g. -f webm will download best quality format with webm extension served as a single file.
>>
>>55050905
webm is shit. You cant put it on a disc and you cant use it in vegas. Its shit
>>
>>55050561
you're supposed to keep reading the docs until you know what to do or you read it all. RTFM

>>55050677
if you've read it all go contact the dev with your problem. /g/ isn't the yt-dl dev

>>55050808
yes you can. but that video by definition would not be from youtube

>>55050905
read the docs about format codes

>>55051207
You can always put shit on a disk, even literal shit.
>>
>>55048506
you probs dont have ffmpeg lmao
>>
>>55051379
mpeg is shit, flv and webm is the way to go.
>>

no, I'm saying that ffmpeg (or avconv) are required to mux the highest quality video/audio formats and I'm implying that >>55048506 is a fucking moron
>>

Mpeg isnt an available option for me it says when i check my list
>>
>>55051450

OP wanted to use the videos to make some faggy soap opera montage. He is probably using vegas, he cant use trash formats or bullshit like that anyways
>>
>>55051378
>You can always put shit on a disk, even literal shit.
It would look like trash if he wanted to make a DvD with webm, webm is the highest quality but it doesnt go on a disc like mp4 would.
>>
>>55051486
I'm not shilling shit. Read the fucking youtube-dl documentation.
>>
>>55051529
I'm not OP, why the fuck would i read that? I'm just saying youre an idiot for shilling something that wont even work for what he stated
>>
>>55051523

That is wrong. You probably just have a shit player.
>>
>>55051684
