Rooting isn't a jailbreak. Your phone already can run unsigned applications out of the box. Rooting just means you can run applications with administrative privileges. I recommend not giving root privileges to arbitrary applications unless you know for certain that the application needs root. If you download some cracked application, and it's asking for root where the regular version doesn't, it's malware.
