Help /g/ents

Install Linux
Install WINE or a VM
>>
>what is dualbooting
Also, install gentoo
>>
mac would give you adobe and *nix
>>
>>55036258
Don't have a lot of experience working with VMs. Do they manage to work well enough with minimal lag?
>>
Don't use linux.

It's buggy, it's ass backwards as fuck, you type 5-10 lines in console for simple stuff like changing your resolution, because not all supported resolutions are shown in the dropdown list, and you look like an autistic hipster

Kill yourself at this moment

Dualbooting is pretty damn simple with every distro, especially Ubuntu.
>>
>>55036271
>and *nix
lolno. OS X "unix" tools are severely outdated and need to be replaced to provide a decent *nix environment.
>>
>>55036288
As long as you have a good chunk of ram and processing, you will be fine, go with WINE if you don't want to fuck it all up
>>
>>55037279
OS X is also "unix" certified. Linux isn't.

How the fuck can OS X be considered UNIX when it's Kernel isn't even monolithic, it's hybrid.
>>
>>55036288

Yes

Use KVM instead of VirtualBox

apt-get/yum instlal virt-manager
>>
>>55036429
Why do people think every linux distro is like this?

Lubuntu is easy as fuck.

I have some assumptions about you:
1. You're some underage kid that got mad cause you fucked up your computer with linux

2. You're a microsoft cuck, never actually used Linux

3. You're new as fuck and can't figure out how to use linux
>>
>>55037279
brew install coreutils
port install coreutils or something
>>55037473
it's not even hybrid, it's micro
>>55036242
USE OS X LAD, better than Linux anyways.
Works better and was easier to install on my non-apple machine.

Dual boot, still a better option than even GPU passthrough. You don't need to be switching inputs, you don't need to be using 2 GPUs (which if you had integrated graphics you would use that, but really why do that when you can just use your decent GPU instead), and you don't need to deal with your keyboard and mouse stuttering and shit.

I did this process yesterday and sure it's cool, to have Windows running some games while using linux, but it takes actually longer to boot which in my opinion makes it -less- convenient.

Just dual boot, nowadays there are no issues, if you have an SSD it is pretty goddamn fast too. Tweak windows a little bit if you want just for those tasks alone but you shouldn't even need to.

That said, if you do really basic stuff on adobe tools, do use a virtual machine instead. If you have a slightly decent computer with enough RAM it should be good enough, I tend to use InDesign and Illustrator on a virtual machine because WINE is a literal turd.

I'd just like to interject for a moment. What you’re referring to as Linux, is in fact, GNU/Linux, or as I’ve recently taken to calling it, GNU plus Linux. Linux is not an operating system unto itself, but rather another free component of a fully functioning GNU system made useful by the GNU corelibs, shell utilities and vital system components comprising a full OS as defined by POSIX.
Many computer users run a modified version of the GNU system every day, without realizing it. Through a peculiar turn of events, the version of GNU which is widely used today is often called “Linux”, and many of its users are not aware that it is basically the GNU system, developed by the GNU Project. There really is a Linux, and these people are using it, but it is just a part of the system they use.
Linux is the kernel: the program in the system that allocates the machine’s resources to the other programs that you run. The kernel is an essential part of an operating system, but useless by itself; it can only function in the context of a complete operating system. Linux is normally used in combination with the GNU operating system: the whole system is basically GNU with Linux added, or GNU/Linux. All the so-called “Linux” distributions are really distributions of GNU/Linux.

I'm terribly sorry for interjecting another moment, but what I just told you is GNU/Linux is, in fact, just Linux, or as I've just now taken to calling it, Just Linux. Linux apparently does happen to be a whole operating system unto itself and comprises a full OS as defined by POSIX.

Most computer users who run the entire Linux system every day already realize it. Through a peculiar turn of events, I was misled into calling the system "GNU/Linux", and until now, I was unaware that it is basically the Linux system, developed by the Linux project.

There really isn't a GNU/Linux, and I really wasn't using it; it is an extraneous misrepresentation of the system that's being used. Linux is the operating system: the entire system made useful by its included corelibs, shell utilities, and other vital system components. The kernel is already an integral part of the Linux operating system, never confined useless by itself; it functions coherently within the context of the complete Linux operating system. Linux is never used in combination with GNU accessories: the whole system is basically Linux without any GNU added, or Just Linux. All the so-called "GNU/Linux" distributions are really distributions of Linux.
