Let me educate you. /g/ is a bunch of hipsters, they just can't use anything that gets too popular. For example with media players we've gone from Quciktime > Realplayer > VLC > MPC and most recently MPC, which will be replaced eventually too when enough people use it.
For torrent clients I believe it was something like BitComet > Utorrent > Azureus > Qbitorrent and now I don't even know. It's a mix of hipster shit all competing about being the most freedums and least botnet
