It also probably depend on your age and work environment. Poor management doesn't help.

Use the mad money you should be earning to buy yourself a Porsche and some hookers on the weekend.

1. quit the one that is forcing you to write CRUD apps in Java/C# (or other similarly boring front-end software applications)
2. find a job at a tech company with a large userbase (ie. a site in the Alexa top 200 or near there)
3. job description: build product infrastructure (or similar). services to power curated user feeds, site search, user/data analysis, etc.
4. actually build and deploy these things into AWS; watch them power your site under load, monitor their metrics, improve them
5. if you don't enjoy this, find another profession
